Bears Visit Signals Trouble For Garrett Bradbury

As the Chicago Bears eye Miami standout James Brockermeyer in the pre-draft process, Garrett Bradbury's role at center could be in question.

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the 2026 NFL Draft with several roster needs, and the center position is stirring up quite the conversation. With the retirement of Pro Bowler Drew Dalman, the Bears traded for Garrett Bradbury, but his contract is set to expire after this season. This leaves Chicago in need of a long-term solution.

Enter James Brockermeyer from the Miami Hurricanes, a standout center who’s catching the Bears' eye. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Brockermeyer, who was a first-team All-American and a third-team All-ACC selection, is on Chicago's radar. Last season, he allowed only 10 pressures, two quarterback hits, and zero sacks over 440 pass-blocking snaps-a testament to his prowess in protecting the quarterback.

Brockermeyer, son of former NFL tackle Blake Brockermeyer, has been making waves after an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl. His visit to the Bears later this week could be pivotal as they consider bolstering their offensive line depth.

While Brockermeyer excels in pass protection, his run-blocking skills are solid but not exceptional, with a Pro Football Focus grade of 68.4, ranking him 48th out of 307 centers. Nevertheless, his potential to shore up the line is undeniable.

With questions already looming over the Bears' offensive line, especially with left tackle Ozzy Trapilo sidelined due to injury and Braxton Jones likely stepping in, strengthening the interior line becomes crucial. Adding depth at center could be key to maintaining offensive stability and matching the level of play they enjoyed with Dalman. As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on how the Bears choose to address these needs.
