Bears Linked To Costly Cornerback Option Dennis Allen Knows Well

The Chicago Bears could potentially land cornerback Alontae Taylor from the Tennessee Titans, but they'll need to navigate his hefty $58 million contract.

The Chicago Bears have been linked to a cornerback who comes with a big price tag but could cost them very little in draft capital.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell named Tennessee Titans cornerback Alontae Taylor as a trade fit for Chicago, pointing to Taylor’s past with Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen as the key connection. Barnwell noted that Taylor played under Allen with the New Orleans Saints, which makes him an obvious name to watch if Chicago wants help in the secondary.

“There's a way the Bears could add without needing to give up much draft capital,” wrote Barnwell. “Alontae Taylor played under Dennis Allen with the Saints, and while he struggled during Allen's final half-year as head coach in 2024, he generally looked like an above-average cornerback for much of his time with New Orleans. The Titans agreed, signing Taylor to a three-year, $58 million deal this offseason.”

The catch is the money. Taylor’s contract would force Chicago to absorb $21 million next year, though Barnwell said the Titans could be willing to move him if the Bears are ready to take on the salary. In that scenario, the cost might be as little as a late-round pick swap.

“If the Bears are willing to pay what Taylor is owed, the Titans should be happy and willing to trade him to Chicago for a swap of late-round picks, which would satisfy Chicago's need for a corner without having to give up much draft capital at all,” added Barnwell.

Chicago’s interest makes some sense given the uncertainty at corner. Jaylon Johnson can be moved on after the season, and Tyrique Stevenson is set to become a free agent. That leaves room for another body, even one with a hefty contract attached.

The fit, though, is not perfectly clean. Tennessee wanted Taylor to work on the outside, but he has been better in the slot. That creates a wrinkle for Chicago, since Kyler Gordon is already the Bears’ top slot corner.

Even so, the Bears’ current situation may make almost any upgrade worth exploring. Taylor did get outside work in Allen’s defense, which leaves open the possibility that he could be more effective there in Chicago than he was with the Titans.

Jaylon Johnson Trade Talk Creates A Bears Deadline Dilemma

Jaylon Johnsons uneven start to the season has become one of the more intriguing roster questions facing the Bears as the trade deadline approaches. The cornerback has been working through the aftereffects of a soft-tissue injury, and his first eight games have not looked like the steady, top-end stretch Chicago expected when the year began.

Ryan Poles is reportedly weighing a move to add help at corner, a step that could reshape the discussion around Johnson almost immediately. If the Bears do end up shopping their own veteran defender, the market could be complicated by interest from around the league, and there are already reasons for Chicago to be careful about where that conversation leads. Tom Brady Sees Something Bears Fans Have Been Waiting For

Tom Brady had a familiar way of putting a spotlight on the Bears after their win over Seattle, and this time the focus was on Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson. In a recent interview, Brady praised the way Williams has settled into Johnsons offense, pointing to the schemes unconventional play designs and the growing comfort between quarterback and coach as the kind of foundation Chicago has been looking for.

The bigger takeaway for Bears fans is the sense that this pairing is starting to look functional in a way that matters. Brady drew a line to the kind of trust Johnson built with Jared Goff in Detroit, which only adds to the intrigue around how far Williams and Johnson can take this offense if the connection keeps developing. Bears Head Into Sunday With Two Roster Concerns Fans Cant Ignore

The Bears final injury report before Sundays Week 9 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought a mixed bag, with a few key names trending in the right direction and a couple of important questions still hanging over the roster. Theo Benedet, DMarco Jackson, Grady Jarrett and T.J. Edwards were all cleared to play after getting in practice, giving Chicago some needed stability as it tries to settle in for a tough conference game.

The bigger concern is in the secondary and around a depth spot on offense, where Kyle Monangai, Malik Muhammad and Tyrique Stevenson all landed on the questionable list. Monangais return to practice after about a month away is a notable step, but his thumb and toe injuries leave his status uncertain, while Stevenson and Muhammad give the Bears two more cornerback situations to monitor right up to kickoff.
