The Chicago Bears are on the brink of free agency, and one of their top priorities is clear: revamp the pass rush. Last season, they ranked 22nd in the NFL with just 35 sacks, largely thanks to the efforts of Montez Sweat and Gervon Dexter, who combined for 16 of those.

With free agency kicking off on March 11, the Bears have a chance to make impactful moves. One intriguing opportunity arose when NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Chiefs are releasing Mike Danna, making him available on the open market.
While acquiring Danna might not have the headline-grabbing appeal of trading for a Maxx Crosby or bringing back Khalil Mack, it could be a savvy move. It offers the Bears a chance to rejuvenate their pass rush while providing Danna with a fresh start.
Mike Danna: A Potential Asset for the Bears
Drafted in the fifth round by the Chiefs in 2020, Danna played a key role in their consecutive Super Bowl victories in 2022 and 2023. Over his first four seasons, he accumulated 17 sacks and 129 pressures on 1,532 pass-rushing snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
However, after signing a three-year, $24 million contract before the 2024 season, his production dipped. Danna recorded just 4.5 sacks and 38 pressures on 551 snaps in the first two years of the deal, and last season was particularly challenging with only one sack and nine pressures on 192 snaps.
Injuries played a part in Danna's struggles, but a change of scenery with the Bears could be just what he needs.
With Sweat leading the charge and Dexter emerging as a force in his second season, the Bears have potential up front. Shemar Turner's return from a torn ACL could bolster the interior, and the team hopes for a bounce-back year from Grady Jarrett.
Danna could be a valuable addition on the edge, complementing Booker, who was a solid rotational player last season. His Super Bowl experience would bring depth and leadership to the group, while still leaving room for further additions through free agency or the draft.
Surrounded by talented teammates, Danna could rediscover his form. With a potential new contract significantly lower than his previous one with the Chiefs, he's a low-risk, high-reward option. Danna might just be the piece the Bears need to elevate their pass rush next season.
