Bears Embarrassment In Green Bay Just Took An Even Uglier Turn

Deck: A Bears fan's inappropriate behavior caught on video overshadows the lackluster rivalry game against the Packers.

Sunday’s Bears-Packers rivalry game at Lambeau Field turned ugly for Chicago long before the final whistle, and not just on the scoreboard.

Green Bay rolled past Chicago 31-7 in front of a sold-out crowd, with Jordan Love starting for the Packers and Caleb Williams sidelined on the other side. The game didn’t have much juice, and the Bears fans scattered through the building had little to celebrate as the loss piled up.

One viral video from the stands captured the kind of ugly behavior that can surface when a game gets away from a fan base. In the clip, a bearded Bears fan wearing a No. 34 jersey is seen talking to nearby Packers fans. He aggressively asks the kids if they have ever been in a fight with a man, then tells them to be prepared to be punched in the face.

The exchange escalates after the Bears fan takes exception to being called a “Geezer,” while referring to the kid as a “Son of a bi-h.” Once he appears to realize he’s being filmed, he points toward the camera and starts smiling.

The reaction at the end of the video says plenty. At that point, it looks like he understood there was a much bigger problem coming if the clip spread.

On the field, Chicago is also waiting for help. Williams is expected to return as soon as Week 6 after missing three straight games with a right hamstring injury suffered in Week 2.

Bears Defense Has A Bigger Problem Than That Packers Loss

During the Bears three-game winning streak, the defense looked like it was finally giving the team a fighting chance, keeping opponents in check and helping steady a season that had been searching for direction. Then came the 31-7 loss to Green Bay, a reminder that improvement and reliability are not the same thing, and that Chicago still has work to do if it wants to hang around in the NFC North.

The bigger issue is that the Bears have too often needed the defense to create extra possessions just to cover for other shortcomings. When that formula works, the team can look much more competitive, but when it does not, the cracks show quickly. Offensively, the Bears still need answers too, but the loss to the Packers made clear that the defense cannot afford to be merely opportunistic if Chicago wants to be taken seriously week to week. Jaylon Johnson Is Raising A Bigger Bears Concern Than One Bad Play

The Bears Week 5 loss to Green Bay had plenty of ugly moments, but one sequence on the Packers seven-yard touchdown run by MarShawn Lloyd stood out because it said something larger about Chicagos defense. Jaylon Johnson was knocked backward on the play, and it fit the broader picture for a unit that has not been nearly as sturdy as expected while the Bears have slipped to 3-2 and 0-2 in the division.

Johnsons season has already been defined by more than one rough snap, and the concern around him now goes beyond a single play. Injuries have played a role, and so has the drop-off in his performance, leaving Chicago to sort through what that means for a defense that has had too many soft spots already. [Read more 🡒]

Montez Sweat Just Put His Bears Future Under A Harsh Spotlight

Montez Sweats status in Chicago already carried some intrigue because of the way his recent play had trended, and now the picture has gotten a lot murkier. The veteran defensive end is suddenly under a harsher spotlight after a suspension tied to the NFLs performance-enhancing substances policy, a development that lands at an awkward moment for a player the Bears were counting on to help anchor the edge.

For the Bears, the bigger issue is no longer just performance, but whether Sweat still fits into the long-term plan if the production does not rebound. His situation now gives the team more flexibility to consider moving on next offseason and creating cap room, which means this storyline is no longer only about one missed stretch, but about how much runway remains for a costly player trying to reset his value.
