Stephen Curry Stuns Fans by Naming Two Hornets for Jersey Retirement

Stephen Curry advocates for honoring Hornets legends, highlighting Muggsy Bogues and Kemba Walker as deserving of jersey retirement.

Stephen Curry, the two-time NBA MVP, was in Charlotte for a special night as the Hornets retired his father Dell Curry's No. 30 jersey. Dell, a key figure in Hornets history, played from 1988 to 1998 and snagged the Sixth Man of the Year award in the 1993-94 season. The ceremony was a family affair, with Stephen, his brother Seth, and sister Sydel all in attendance to celebrate their father's legacy.

Stephen, never shy about sharing his thoughts, had some ideas for the Hornets' next jersey retirements. When asked, he didn't hesitate to name Tyrone "Muggsy" Bogues and Kemba Walker as the next deserving candidates.

"Muggsy and Kemba. Those are the next two ‘for sure’ guys," he told the Charlotte Observer.

Growing up, Stephen was surrounded by Hornets legends like Muggsy Bogues, who was part of the franchise's inaugural season alongside Dell. Bogues, a fan favorite, went viral in 2024 for sharing a nostalgic photo of a young Stephen trying to guard him. Muggsy's time with the Hornets lasted until a trade sent him to Golden State in 1997.

Kemba Walker, another standout in Hornets lore, was drafted ninth overall in 2011 by the then-Charlotte Bobcats. He stayed with the team through its transition back to the Hornets in 2014, earning four All-Star nods during his tenure.

The night was a heartfelt nod to the past, with Stephen Curry highlighting the players who helped shape the Hornets' history. As Charlotte looks to the future, honoring legends like Dell, Muggsy, and Kemba keeps the spirit of the franchise alive.
