The Charlotte Hornets are in Dallas tonight to take on the Mavericks, and all eyes are on the health of rising forward Brandon Miller. After a string of strong performances, Miller has popped up on the injury report with a left ankle impingement.
The good news for Hornets fans? He’s listed as probable-which usually leans toward him suiting up.
Miller’s been one of the few bright spots in Charlotte this season, especially coming off a sophomore year that was marred by injuries. Now in his third season, he's showing the kind of growth that teams hope for in a young cornerstone.
Over his last 11 games, he's been a consistent presence in the lineup and has suited up for 25 of the team’s last 26 contests. That availability has translated to success, with Charlotte riding a four-game win streak heading into Thursday night.
Statistically, Miller’s putting together a well-rounded campaign. He’s averaging 20.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting a solid 43.6% from the field.
He's also been reliable from deep (37.6% from three) and automatic from the stripe (86.3% free-throw shooting). Those numbers aren’t just good-they’re signs of a player who’s figuring it out on both ends of the floor and becoming a reliable offensive option.
But that ankle is something to monitor. While he’s expected to be available, it’s still worth noting that any lower-body issue-especially for a player who relies on quick cuts and explosive movement-can be tricky. The Hornets will likely keep a close eye on his minutes and mobility throughout the game.
Charlotte will be without a few key pieces, though. Grant Williams is out as he manages a right knee issue, and Mason Plumlee remains sidelined following surgery on his right groin. On top of that, PJ Hall, Antonio Reeves, and KJ Simpson are all out on two-way assignments, while Moussa Cisse is questionable.
As for Dallas, they’re dealing with their own injury pile-up. Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II are both out following knee and foot surgeries, respectively.
Dante Exum is also sidelined after undergoing surgery on his right knee. Anthony Davis won’t be available due to a left finger sprain, and Naji Marshall is sitting out for rest.
Klay Thompson and Ryan Nembhard are both probable, while Brandon Williams and Miles Kelly are listed as questionable.
So, while both teams are navigating a laundry list of injuries, the likely return of Brandon Miller could be a big swing factor for the Hornets. If he’s anywhere near his recent form, Charlotte has a real shot to keep their momentum going against a shorthanded Mavericks squad.
