Kon Knueppel is making waves in the NBA with a rookie season that's turning heads. The 19-year-old phenom is a key player for the Charlotte Hornets, who are eyeing a playoff spot, and he's right in the mix for Rookie of the Year honors.
Hornets head coach Charles Lee couldn't be more impressed with Knueppel’s contributions. “He’s found ways to impact winning across the board,” Lee shared before the Hornets faced off against the Brooklyn Nets.
“For someone so young to consistently perform at this level is remarkable. His defensive presence and offensive consistency, even without dominating the ball, show his commitment to the team’s success.”
Knueppel’s stats are nothing short of spectacular, leading the Hornets into the play-in race. He's averaging 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists, with shooting splits of .484/.433/.862 over 74 games. His 222 three-pointers set a new rookie record, and he's hitting 56% of his two-pointers while maintaining a solid 1.74 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Despite initial doubts about his athleticism, Knueppel has excelled defensively, playing the most minutes for a team ranked 14th in defensive rating. Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez praised his resilience and skill, saying, “His shooting is impressive, but he’s a complete player.
He carries himself like a seasoned pro, and his pre-draft workout was just a glimpse of his potential. His future in the league is bright.”
Knueppel is currently the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, edging out his former Duke teammate and top pick Cooper Flagg, according to BetMGM.
