The Hornets trimmed their roster to the regular-season limit on Tuesday, waiving guards Jarkel Joiner and Latrell Wrightsell, the team announced via Twitter.
Joiner, a 6-foot-1 point guard out of NC State, went undrafted in 2023 and has spent his pro career bouncing through the G League pipeline. He has signed non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deals with Atlanta in 2023 and 2024, with Toronto in 2025 and with Charlotte in 2026. Over his first three seasons, he played for the Hawks’ and Raptors’ affiliates, and last month his returning rights were acquired by the Greensboro Swarm in a trade.
His most recent G League work came with Raptors 905, where he appeared in 49 games last season and averaged 10.9 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per game while shooting .446 from the field, .356 from three and .820 at the line. He also suited up for the Vancouver Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League this year and logged four preseason appearances for Charlotte this month.
Wrightsell’s path was shorter but followed the same offseason logic. The 6-foot-3 guard went undrafted out of Alabama earlier this year after a college season in which he averaged 13.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per game and shot 36% on 7.8 three-point attempts per contest. He agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Hornets in June, but that deal was not finalized until this week, which kept him out of preseason action entirely.
Both players are expected to report to the Swarm this fall. Charlotte now has 15 players on standard contracts, all guaranteed, along with three on two-way deals.
