Dillon Brooks and Brandon Miller just earned themselves some well-deserved recognition, taking home Player of the Week honors for the Western and Eastern Conferences, respectively, for games played from January 26 through February 1.
Let’s start in the West, where Brooks put together one of his most efficient stretches of the season. The Suns forward helped lead his team to a 3-1 record over the week, and he did it by lighting it up from deep-shooting a blistering 54.5% from three.
He averaged 28.8 points per game during that run, showing off the kind of scoring punch that can flip a game on its head. Add in 4.5 rebounds per contest, and Brooks wasn’t just scoring-he was impacting the game on both ends.
It’s a strong statement from a player whose game is often defined by his defense and edge. But this week, it was his offensive firepower that took center stage. And considering the competition he edged out-names like Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Kawhi Leonard-it’s clear Brooks didn’t just have a good week; he had a standout one in a loaded field.
Over in the East, Brandon Miller is continuing to show why the Hornets are so high on him. The rookie forward averaged 26 points per game, knocked down half of his threes, and pulled down 5.8 rebounds a night. That production helped Charlotte go a perfect 4-0 during the week-a rare bright spot in what’s been an up-and-down season for the Hornets.
Miller’s efficiency and poise are turning heads, and this week was another step forward in a rookie campaign that’s gaining serious traction. He outpaced a strong group of Eastern Conference nominees that included Jarrett Allen, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Cade Cunningham, Joel Embiid, and Aaron Nesmith. Not bad company for a first-year player.
Both Brooks and Miller showed what happens when talent meets opportunity. Brooks reminded us he can be a go-to scorer when the moment calls for it, while Miller continues to build a case as one of the most promising young wings in the league. For one week, they were the best in their conferences-and they earned every bit of that spotlight.
