Mahogany Chandler-Roberts is starting to look like a different player in her sophomore season-and that’s exactly what UCF needed.
A year ago, Chandler-Roberts was finding her footing. As a freshman, she averaged just 2.4 points in under 15 minutes per game across 29 appearances.
Her role was limited, her impact modest. But fast forward to this season, and she’s not just part of the rotation-she’s become one of the Knights’ most reliable contributors.
Through 23 games, all of which she’s started, Chandler-Roberts is averaging 7.1 points (third on the team) and 5.4 rebounds (second on the roster). That’s not just a statistical bump-it’s a sign of growth, confidence, and trust from the coaching staff. She’s gone from a bench piece to a foundational player in UCF’s lineup.
The leap is especially noticeable in Big 12 play, where Chandler-Roberts has found another gear. She’s scored in double figures in eight of UCF’s 12 conference games, including a current stretch of four straight. That consistency has turned her into a real factor for the Knights, even as the team has struggled to find its rhythm in a tough conference slate.
Her breakout moment came on January 24 against TCU, when she poured in a career-high 17 points. But it was her most recent outing that may have been her most complete performance yet.
In a tough 81-58 loss to Oklahoma State, Chandler-Roberts notched the first double-double of her college career-12 points and 10 rebounds. On a night when little else went right for UCF, she stood out as a bright spot.
At 10-13 on the season, the Knights are still looking for answers. But one thing’s clear: Chandler-Roberts’ development is a win in itself.
She’s not just producing-she’s evolving into the kind of player who can anchor UCF’s future. And with a matchup against West Virginia coming up Wednesday night, she’ll have another chance to show just how far she’s come.
For UCF, the season may be a grind. But for Chandler-Roberts, it’s starting to feel like a breakout.
