The UCF Knights’ Week 1 statement against Bethune-Cookman didn’t just show up on the scoreboard - it showed up in College Football 27, too.
Four Knights saw their ratings climb after the blowout, with X user Stephen Leonard noting boosts for running back Duke Watson, defensive back Jayden Williams, offensive linemen Brady Wayburn and Owen Spell. Watson moved from 83 to 84, Williams from 76 to 78, Wayburn from 76 to 77 and Spell from 73 to 74.
Watson wasted no time making the case. On the second snap of UCF’s first drive, the Louisville transfer burst through a huge lane and took it 64 yards to the end zone.
It was just four yards short of matching his career long of 68 yards, which came against Stanford on Sept. 18, 2024.
By the end of the night, Watson had 110 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, good for 15.7 yards per attempt. The outing served as another reminder of why he led the nation in yards per carry at Louisville as a freshman. In 2024, he averaged 8.9 yards per carry, a number that stood out even among the best backs in college football.
Williams got in on the scoring surge soon after. On Bethune-Cookman’s second drive of the first quarter, he jumped a pass and returned it 47 yards for a pick-six. Quarterback Tyler Jefferson was under pressure from linebacker Lewis Carter, and the throw sailed off target before Williams snatched it and raced into the end zone with help from his teammates’ blocking.
Up front, Wayburn and Spell kept quarterback Alonza Barnett III clean all night, helping UCF finish without allowing a sack. Spell’s strong work comes after being named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list and helping UCF’s offensive line earn the Big 12 Offensive Line of the Week Award for allowing zero sacks in last season’s blowout over the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The only Knight to go the other way in the latest ratings update was offensive lineman Cooper Terpstra, who dropped from a 70 overall to 69.
More changes could be coming after Week 2, when UCF goes on the road to face Pittsburgh. The Panthers have built a reputation around their run defense, finishing second in the ACC last season at 95.1 yards allowed per game, third in 2024 at 112.8 and eighth in 2023 at 150.2. Barnett said he is looking forward to the challenge, and the matchup also brings an ACC opponent that went 8-4 last season back into the picture with quarterback Mason Heintschel, who threw for seven touchdowns in Week 1, and running back Ja’Kyrian Turner.

UCF Has A Bigger Worry Than The Loss To Pitt
UCF came out of the loss to Pittsburgh with more than just another frustrating offensive performance to sort through. The Knights had trouble moving the ball in miserable weather, especially on the ground, and head coach Scott Frost said the conditions made even the basics more difficult, with a wet play sheet complicating the flow of play-calling. It was the kind of game that already left the offense looking out of sync before the bigger concern arrived.
Alonza Barnett IIIs injury has now pushed the quarterback situation back into the spotlight, and that is the last thing this program needed after a run of setbacks. UCF has spent much of the season trying to find stability at the position, and Barnett's exit adds another layer of uncertainty to an offense already struggling to establish rhythm. UCF Just Reignited The Same Road Frustration Fans Feared
UCF went into Pittsburgh looking for a clean response on the road, and instead came away with another reminder of how stubborn that problem has become. The Knights fell 12-7 to the Panthers in their 2026 season game, a result that kept the offense bottled up enough to leave the margin thin and the frustration familiar.
The defense did its part by limiting Pittsburgh in the second half, but the Knights never found enough on the ground to tilt the game back in their favor. UCFs 2026 Schedule Already Looks Tougher Than Fans Expected
A few of the teams waiting on Central Floridas 2026 schedule are already giving the Knights a better sense of what that fall might look like. Georgia State opened the conversation by beating Kennesaw State, while Oklahoma State added a much bigger jolt by knocking off Oregon, and Iowa handled Iowa State in another result that adds some weight to the nonconference and Power Four opponents sitting ahead on the calendar.
For UCF, the immediate note is that Georgia State is on the home slate and Oklahoma State is the road trip that could carry more intrigue than it did a few weeks ago. The Cowboys result against Oregon only sharpened the view of that matchup, even if there are still plenty of moving parts between now and then, and the broader picture is that the Knights 2026 schedule is starting to look less like a routine setup and more like one with real early tests.
