UCF didn’t just beat Bethune-Cookman to start the 2026 season. It buried the Wildcats under a historic avalanche, rolling to a 73-6 win Thursday night that set a new program record for margin of victory and matched the Knights’ FBS record for points in a game.
The scoring came from everywhere. UCF used four different quarterbacks, and 10 different players found the end zone in a performance that never gave Bethune-Cookman a chance to settle in. Alonza Barnett started at quarterback and finished 11 of 18 for 158 yards, a touchdown and an interception as the Knights piled up 560 net yards.
The tone was set immediately by Alex Grinch’s defense. UCF forced a punt on the Wildcats’ first possession, then turned the game into a runaway on the next snap from scrimmage.
Duke Watson took a handoff from Barnett and ripped off a 64-yard touchdown on just UCF’s second offensive play. Twelve seconds of game time later, Jayden Williams made it 14-0 by taking an interception of Tyler Jefferson back 47 yards for a touchdown.
Barnett added his first rushing score as a Knight late in the first quarter, keeping the ball on a fake and finishing a five-yard run around the right side. Then, early in the second quarter, he threw his first passing touchdown in black and gold, finding Jonathan Bibbs for a 23-yard score.
UCF did cool off a bit in the middle of the second quarter, with two drives ending in a punt and Will Stone kicking his first field goal for the Knights. But the defense kept the pressure on.
At 4:07 of the second quarter, Aymeric Koumba stripped Tyler Jefferson and Horace Lockett recovered at the Wildcats’ 44-yard line. Six plays later, Landen Chambers punched in a two-yard touchdown run.
That sent UCF into halftime up 38-0, its highest first-half output since 2007, when it scored 42 against Memphis.
The second half brought more of the same. After a touchdown was wiped out in the first half because of an illegal man downfield, Taevion Swint finally got on the board with a 27-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. On the next drive, Keyone Jenkins came in at quarterback and handed off to Chambers, who broke free for another 27-yard score.
Freshman Chase Hinshaw then flipped field position with a strong punt return, setting up Jenkins to hit Caleb Rollerson for a nine-yard touchdown. Not long after, Agyeman Addae became the ninth UCF player to score with a 39-yard run that pushed the Knights to 66-0.
True freshman Rocco Marriott finished the Knights’ scoring barrage by sneaking in from a yard out early in the fourth quarter, giving UCF a 73-0 lead with the extra point.
Bethune-Cookman avoided the shutout only in the final seconds, when Kobe Stewart caught an eight-yard pass from Joel Morris for the Wildcats’ lone touchdown. No extra point was attempted.
The victory gave Scott Frost his 25th win as UCF head coach across his two stints with the program. The Knights return to action Sept. 12 on the road against Pittsburgh, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
