Rutgers Makes a Push for UCF QB Commit Logan Flaherty - Will Familiar Ties Tip the Scale?
The recruiting trail just got a little more interesting for UCF - and a little more crowded.
Logan Flaherty, the 2027 three-star quarterback commit for the Knights, is now on Rutgers’ radar. The Scarlet Knights officially extended an offer to the Port Charlotte (Fla.) product on February 2, and there’s a familiar face in Piscataway who could play a role in what happens next.
That would be Edd Guerrier, Rutgers running back and Flaherty’s former high school teammate. The connection isn’t just casual - it’s close.
“Edd’s my guy,” Flaherty said. “I called him right after coach [Greg Schiano] came down to see me.
He had a lot of great things to say about Rutgers.”
And just like that, what once looked like a solid commitment to UCF is now worth watching.
Flaherty originally pledged to the Knights back on October 14, becoming the first commitment of their 2027 recruiting class. At 6-foot-2, he’s a true dual-threat quarterback with a strong arm and serious mobility - the kind of player who’s been trending in college football for years. He’s been leading the Port Charlotte Pirates with poise and production, and his junior season numbers speak for themselves.
Flaherty threw for 2,636 yards and 27 touchdowns while completing over 60% of his passes (60.8%, to be exact). But it’s not just what he does through the air - he also added 595 rushing yards and 11 scores on the ground.
That kind of balanced attack helped him account for more than 3,000 total yards and 38 touchdowns this past season. In doing so, he became the all-time touchdown leader at Port Charlotte with 72 total scores.
His play didn’t go unnoticed. Flaherty cleaned up on the awards circuit, earning the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Region 18 Player of the Year honor.
He was also named first-team Region 18 Class 4 quarterback, Region 18 Class 4 Player of the Year, and Region 18 All Classes All Positions Player of the Year. That’s a mouthful - and a trophy case full.
Beyond the high school field, Flaherty’s been making noise on the national camp circuit. He showed out at the Elite 11 Regional in Miami, a proving ground for top-tier quarterback talent.
He clocked a 4.85 in the 40-yard dash and a 4.35 in the 5-10-5 shuttle - both fifth-best marks at the event. That’s the kind of athleticism that turns heads, especially when paired with a live arm and solid mechanics.
He also earned an invite to The Opening, another elite-level showcase that only hosts around 100 recruits per regional. These aren’t just participation events - they’re high-level evaluations where future college and NFL stars often separate themselves from the pack.
So now the question becomes: will Flaherty stick with UCF, or could Rutgers - with a little help from an old friend - pull off a flip?
There’s still one more high school season left for Flaherty to play, and a lot can happen between now and National Signing Day. But Rutgers has officially entered the picture, and with Guerrier in his ear and Schiano making the personal visit, the Scarlet Knights are making it clear they’re serious.
UCF, meanwhile, will be watching closely - because recruiting never really stops. And when it comes to quarterbacks with Flaherty’s upside, the race is rarely over until the ink is dry.
