Scott Frost Sees Familiar Edge For UCF This Spring

Scott Frost leverages improved team familiarity and strategic focus as UCF gears up for a pivotal spring football season.

Scott Frost is gearing up to lead the UCF Knights into spring practice, marking the second season of his return to Orlando. With the first day of camp set for March 31, the Knights are ready to dive into a crucial period of preparation that will stretch through April and into early May.

Frost recently shared insights on the Big 12 Today radio program, highlighting the significant changes in planning this year due to the elimination of the spring transfer portal. With the roster now solidified, the team can fully focus on football without the distractions of last year's uncertainties.

"Last year, the spring transfer portal had everyone on edge," Frost explained. "Nobody wanted to showcase their talent too early.

But now, with the portal closed and our team set, we can concentrate on building chemistry and improving. The guys have been pushing themselves harder this offseason, and we're ready to put more into spring ball."

Frost emphasized the limited roster turnover since his return from Nebraska, noting the strategic retention of key players. The Knights added 30 new faces via the transfer portal while keeping essential talents like receivers Duane Thomas Jr. and Waden Charles, tight end Dylan Wade, linebacker Lewis Carter, and defensive tackle Horace Lockett.

"It feels like we have a solid core back," Frost said, reflecting on the difference from last year. "First years are tough.

We lost a lot and had to rebuild. But now, we know our players.

We've done well to retain those we wanted and add new talent around them. This gives us a strong foundation with guys who understand the expectations and schemes."

After finishing 5-7 overall and 2-7 in Big 12 play in 2025, UCF is eager to secure their first bowl berth since 2023. With a more stable roster and a clearer focus, the Knights are poised to make significant strides this season.
