As the NFL Draft approaches, former UCF edge rushers Malachi Lawrence and Nyjalik Kelly are making waves with standout performances at the NFL Combine, setting the stage for their professional careers.
Malachi Lawrence is drawing attention as a potential early Day Two pick, with some analysts even hinting at a first-round possibility. Meanwhile, Nyjalik Kelly is projected as a late-round pick or a priority undrafted free agent. Both players were integral parts of Scott Frost's 2025 team at UCF, and the head coach had high praise for their contributions during his rebuilding phase.
Frost shared his thoughts on the Big 12 Today radio show, expressing his admiration for Lawrence's journey. "Malachi's story is remarkable.
He was injured when I arrived and missed spring ball, so we weren't sure what we had. But his business-like approach and continuous improvement were impressive.
His speed and agility surprised us all, and I'm thrilled to see where he lands."
Nyjalik Kelly's path was also noteworthy. Initially hoping to return for another season, his plans were thwarted by the NCAA's decision not to grant him a redshirt year. Kelly's college career began at Miami in 2022, where he played four games before an injury cut his season short.
At the Combine, Kelly clocked a 4.88-second 40-yard dash, with a ten-yard split of 1.69 seconds, and showcased a 37-inch vertical and a 9'11" broad jump. Lawrence impressed with a 4.52-second 40-yard dash, a ten-yard split of 1.59 seconds, a 40-inch vertical, and a 10'10" broad jump.
With the NFL Draft kicking off on April 23 in Pittsburgh, UCF is eager to continue its streak of having players selected, following in the footsteps of recent draftees like RJ Harvey and Mac McWilliams. The anticipation is building as Lawrence and Kelly prepare to take the next step in their football journeys.
