Jayden Bellamy is back for one more run in Orlando, and the UCF defensive back enters 2026 with a key role still waiting for him.
Bellamy transferred to UCF from Syracuse ahead of the 2025 season and now has a chance to finish his college career with the Knights. If he does, he’ll become the third person in his immediate family to wrap up a college sports career.
His father, Jay Bellamy, was a safety at Rutgers before going undrafted in the 1994 NFL Draft and carving out a 14-year NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks from 1994-2000 and the New Orleans Saints from 2001-2007. From 1998 to 2004, he started every single week of the regular season.
Bellamy’s sister, Bre Bellamy, also completed her college career recently. She played four seasons at William & Mary and finished at UMass in 2023-24, averaging 6.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 45.7% as a forward.
On the field, Bellamy earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention after posting 27 tackles, including 20 solo stops, along with eight pass breakups and an interception.
He is expected to play a major role again for UCF at cornerback in 2026, though the Week 1 depth chart suggests his starting spot may not be guaranteed every week. DJ Bell has pushed into the conversation as a starting option next to Bellamy and Antione Jackson.
That possibility doesn’t necessarily point to a step back for Bellamy. Instead, it speaks to how crowded and competitive the Knights’ defensive back room has become. Bellamy described that group during local media day as "very, very deep," and pointed to Bell and Jailen Duffie as part of that mix.
That depth has also fueled a turnover-driven mindset in practice. Bellamy said takeaways have become "the main game" for the Knights.
"I think we were 94th in takeaways last year, and that's not what we want," Bellamy said.
