A month ago, the idea of the Panthers walking into Philadelphia and leaving with a win would have sounded like a reach. After Carolina’s ugly start, that kind of confidence would’ve been hard to justify. But the picture looks different now, and this matchup suddenly feels a lot less one-sided than it did before.
Philadelphia enters Sunday on a three-game losing streak after dropping a 19-17 decision to Jacksonville, while Carolina comes off its bye following a 32-26 win over Detroit. That doesn’t make the Panthers the better team over the long haul, but it does make this game a lot harder to dismiss. Carolina is playing better football right now, and that’s enough to make the bold stuff at least believable.
Bryce Young is the biggest reason for that shift. He threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns against Detroit, pushing his season totals to 1,268 passing yards and nine touchdowns with only two interceptions through four games.
More importantly, Carolina is no longer treating him like someone who just needs to keep the seat warm. The offense is putting the ball in his hands and asking him to carry it.
That’s why the Eagles’ approach Sunday will matter so much. Philadelphia will almost certainly bring pressure, and Chuba Hubbard’s 122-yard, two-touchdown day against Detroit should put him on the radar too. If the Eagles decide to load up on Hubbard and force Young to win it himself, Carolina should be ready for that challenge.
Prediction: Young throws for 315 yards and two touchdowns.
Tetairoa McMillan is the other name that keeps popping up for all the right reasons. Against Detroit, he hauled in 14 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns, and the chemistry between him and Young is impossible to ignore.
When Carolina needs a play, the football seems to be headed his way, and defenses know it. That hasn’t stopped him lately.
Philadelphia will have a plan for him after watching that Detroit tape, and extra attention around the red zone would not be a surprise. Even so, McMillan feels like the kind of player you keep betting on until he gives you a reason not to.
Prediction: McMillan goes over 100 receiving yards and catches two touchdowns.
The Panthers’ defense is still the hardest part of this equation to pin down. It gives up yards, it struggles to create pressure, and there are stretches where it looks like it might never get off the field. And yet, Carolina has eight takeaways through four games, which is enough to make you start thinking this might just be what the group is.
Jalen Hurts is still going to make plays. Philadelphia is still going to move the ball.
Carolina is not getting a clean day defensively. But if the Panthers can steal a couple of possessions, that could swing the whole thing.
Prediction: Hurts turns it over twice, including once in the fourth quarter.
That is what makes this game so interesting. The Panthers do not need to be the better team from start to finish.
They just need to be better for one Sunday afternoon. Based on what they’ve shown lately, that no longer feels impossible.

Taylor Moton Returns After Frightening Scare In Huge Panthers Boost
Taylor Moton was back on the practice field for Carolina this week after a frightening health scare that briefly pulled the veteran right tackle away from football altogether. He had been diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, a diagnosis serious enough to bring coughing up blood and a three-month stretch on blood thinners, but even while he was sidelined from playing, Moton stayed around the team and helped coach the offensive line.
For the Panthers, his return is about more than just getting a starting tackle back in the mix. Motons presence steadies a unit that leaned on his experience even when he could not suit up, and coach Dave Canales has made clear he expects that influence to continue. The next question is how quickly Moton can ramp back up after missing game action, but simply getting him back on the field is a major step for a team that has already had to adjust without him. Panthers Suddenly Have One Trade Deadline Question They Can't Ignore
Carolinas push to fix its pass rush got a major boost with the addition of Jaelan Phillips, a move that signaled how seriously the Panthers are treating a clear weakness from a rough 2025 showing. Phillips was brought in to help change the tone up front, but his hamstring injury has complicated the picture just enough to keep the front office attentive as Week 6 approaches.
Khalil Mack has emerged as one name worth watching if the Panthers decide they need more help before the deadline. The Chargers slow start has fueled speculation that a veteran edge rusher could become available, and Carolina has every reason to keep exploring ways to deepen a group that still needs answers beyond its headline addition. Dan Morgan Has A Panthers Roster Decision Fans Should Watch
The Panthers roster is opening up at an interesting time, with defensive tackle Cam Jackson going on injured reserve because of a shoulder injury. Carolina also designated Trevor Etienne, Taylor Moton and Tershawn Wharton to return to practice, though Etienne is the only one expected back in the lineup soon. That leaves Dan Morgan with some room to maneuver, and the next move is less about filling one hole than deciding how best to use the extra space.
Moton and Wharton each come with their own timelines, and the Panthers have three weeks to determine whether either player is ready to be activated. Morgan has some flexibility here, and the choice could say plenty about how the team views its depth and immediate needs. For a roster that is still sorting out who can help now and who needs more time, these are the kind of decisions that tend to matter later. [Read more 🡒]
