Still, once injuries stack up, depth at quarterback matters fast. Pickett has started games in this league, and he was taken in the first round.
Nobody would be asking him to replace Williams or Daniels outright. The job would be much simpler than that: keep the ship steady until the starter is back.
He has shown enough to suggest a team can win with him, and that kind of profile becomes a lot more attractive when the quarterback room is suddenly thin.
For Carolina, the decision comes down to how much trust they have in King as Young’s backup. If they feel good about that setup, then Pickett becomes a possible trade chip.
A few weeks ago, there probably wasn’t much of a market for him. Now, with quarterback injuries piling up around the league, an experienced backup has real value.
That doesn’t mean the Panthers should give him away. It does mean the timing has changed. If the right offer shows up, Pickett might be worth moving now, because his value may never be higher than it is at this moment.
