Panthers Suddenly Catch A Huge Break Before Eagles Showdown

With their star quarterback Jalen Hurts sidelined due to a serious health concern, the Philadelphia Eagles face yet another challenge as they prepare to take on the Carolina Panthers.

The Eagles’ Sunday matchup with the Panthers just got a lot more complicated.

Jalen Hurts will not play against Carolina because of a superficial blood clot, leaving Philadelphia to sort out the quarterback spot while the team tries to stop a two-game slide. The Eagles have already been dealing with the fallout from their heartbreaking loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars over the weekend, and now they have another major setback to manage.

The team said Hurts first asked for treatment in the training room on Thursday, October 8, after practice, telling medical staff he had been cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. Philadelphia noted that this was his first treatment session for the calf issue after he had practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday. Hurts then received treatment on Friday, practiced in full, and was added to the practice report.

From there, the situation escalated. The Eagles said an ultrasound was done on Saturday after the team’s flight to London and a walkthrough.

That scan showed a superficial blood clot. According to the team, medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and decided that activity and mobility were important, and that Hurts could safely play.

They recommended another ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia.

Hurts went on to play without limitation on Sunday, then received treatment on Monday and Tuesday before practicing in full on Wednesday. The Eagles said they stayed in contact with the league office throughout the situation. But on Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound showed movement in the small blood clot, and the team ruled Hurts out for Sunday’s game against the Panthers while it figures out the next step in treatment.

As ESPN’s Ian Rapoport reported, Hurts is out for Sunday because of the superficial blood clot.

It is still unclear how serious the condition is or whether this will cost Hurts more than one game, but Philadelphia now has one more injury issue to navigate. Recent weeks have already sent Dallas Goedert, DeVonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley, among others, onto the injury report, forcing Nick Sirianni to keep adjusting the lineup.

If Hurts can’t go, the Eagles appear to have two options: Tanner McKee and Cole Payton. McKee has the more NFL experience, having appeared in six games over the last two seasons and thrown five touchdowns in that span. Payton is a rookie who arrived after an impressive season at North Dakota State University, where he passed for 2,719 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Who Sirianni and Sean Mannion choose to take the reins from Hurts against Carolina will be one of the key storylines leading up to kickoff.

The Eagles and Panthers meet Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. EST.

Panthers Just Got Pulled Into A Dangerous Justin Herbert Debate

The idea of Justin Herbert becoming available is the kind of quarterback talk that can instantly pull another team into the conversation, and the Panthers have not been spared. With Bryce Young still trying to establish himself as Carolinas long-term answer, any rumor tying the Chargers star to the market naturally sends attention toward Charlotte, where quarterback stability has been a central issue and every big-name possibility gets measured against the current plan.

Herberts performance, contract status and the Chargers needs all make this more than idle speculation, but the Panthers angle is what keeps the debate alive. If a trade ever moved past the hypothetical stage, Young would almost certainly become part of the discussion, turning a leaguewide rumor into a franchise-defining decision for Carolina. For now, though, it remains exactly that, a debate with plenty of intrigue and no confirmation behind it. [Read more 🡒]

Panthers Face A Very Different Eagles Challenge After Jalen Hurts News

The Panthers were already preparing for one of the leagues toughest road tests, and now the matchup in Philadelphia has taken a sharp turn. Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the Eagles because of a superficial blood clot, a development that changes the look of a game Carolina had been expecting to navigate against one of the NFLs most physical and balanced offenses.

Hurts was initially thought to be dealing with a calf injury, but further testing found the clot, and a follow-up ultrasound showed movement that led the team to hold him out for safety. Philadelphia is focusing on his health and figuring out the right treatment plan, which leaves Carolina facing a very different kind of challenge than the one it spent the week preparing for. Panthers Fans Suddenly Have A New Reason To Believe In This Offense

After years of waiting for the Carolina Panthers to look dangerous on offense, the early returns have finally given fans something tangible to hang onto. Through the first four games, Carolina has reached 30 points in three of them and piled up 121 points, the most the franchise has ever scored over that span, with Bryce Young, Tetairoa McMillan and Chuba Hubbard all helping drive the turnaround.

It is still a small sample, and no one inside the building is going to crown this unit based on a fast start alone. But for a team that has spent so much time searching for signs of progress, this is real enough to keep watching, especially if the Panthers can turn these flashes into something more sustainable as the season unfolds.
