Panthers Prime-Time Matchup Comes With A Weather Concern Fans Should Watch

Football fans should brace for a rainy weekend as several key NFL matchups in Week 4 could be significantly impacted by weather conditions, including a soggy Sunday Night Football face-off for the Lions and Panthers.

Rain could be the theme again for Week 4, with several NFL matchups set up under unsettled skies after last weekend’s Nor’easter-shaped slate.

The most notable weather watch sits around Sunday Night Football, where the Detroit Lions visit the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte. Rain and wind are both in play for that one, giving the prime-time stage a messy look at Bank of America Stadium.

There’s also a rainy forecast attached to the Los Angeles Rams’ home date with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 4. That game matters for another reason too: the Rams are bringing Puka Nacua back into the mix, though the wet conditions could leave Sean McVay thinking twice about how much to lean on his receiver.

Storms could also touch the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ matchup with the Green Bay Packers. That’s worth watching after Tampa Bay already dealt with a nearly two-hour weather delay in Week 2 because of thunderstorms and lightning during its 23-19 home loss to the Cleveland Browns.

According to MySportsWeather.com, here’s how the rest of the Week 4 forecast shapes up heading into kickoff:

Panthers Hit With New NFL Discipline Right Before Lions Game

The Panthers are dealing with a little extra league paperwork heading into their Lions matchup, with the NFL handing down fines to three players for infractions from Week 3 against the Browns. A.J. Dillon was penalized for a facemask, Lee Hunter for unsportsmanlike conduct tied to taunting, and Thomas Incoom for unnecessary roughness involving helmet use.

None of the three was suspended, so Carolina avoids a bigger hit to its depth chart. Still, the fines are a reminder that the Panthers physical edge has to stay within the leagues lines, especially with another tough opponent waiting and every roster spot carrying added weight. [Read more 🡒]

Former Panthers QB Andy Dalton Just Took A Tough Turn In Philly

Andy Daltons run in Philadelphia has taken an awkward turn, with the Eagles set to hand the backup quarterback job to Tanner McKee. For a veteran who arrived with plenty of experience and a clear understanding of what it means to be a steady No. 2, the change comes after Dalton was in the mix for the role and had already seen the field this season.

The decision follows a recent interception that appears to have shifted the competition, and it leaves the Eagles with four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. McKee has also appeared in games this season, so this is not just a depth-chart formality, but a meaningful move in a crowded room where every snap has carried some weight. [Read more 🡒]

Panthers Face A Tough Xavier Legette Decision Fans Didn't Expect

Xavier Legettes first two seasons in Carolina have not unfolded the way the Panthers hoped when they made him a first-round receiver, and the frustration has only grown with the knee injury that has him on injured reserve right now. Even so, the conversation around him is no longer just about what has gone wrong, but about what his next step might be if the Panthers decide his path forward is better served elsewhere.

League observers have started floating the idea that Legette could use a change of scenery, with the Chiefs and Eagles among the teams mentioned as possible fits. For Carolina, the question is whether there is still enough upside to keep waiting on a player who could eventually settle in as a complementary receiver, or whether the smarter move is to admit the fit has not worked and move on once he is healthy again.
