Panthers Fans Have A Linebacker Prospect Worth Watching Early

As the Carolina Panthers prepare for the 2027 NFL Draft, rising star linebacker Chris Cole from Georgia is catching their eye with his standout performance and impressive versatility.

The Carolina Panthers are still early in the 2027 NFL Draft process, but Georgia linebacker Chris Cole already checks a lot of the boxes teams chase at the position. At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, he brings the kind of size-speed blend that makes evaluators sit up, and his game has only kept climbing since arriving in Athens.

Cole was the top-rated player in Virginia and chose Georgia over offers from Miami, Penn State, and Tennessee. He got on the field right away as a true freshman and picked up SEC All-Freshman honors.

By his sophomore season, he had stepped into a much bigger role, finishing with 59 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and a couple pass breakups. This year, he has taken another jump and turned into a disruptive piece for the Bulldogs, piling up 22 tackles, five for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries, including an 85-yard scoop and score.

What makes Cole stand out most is his coverage ability. He’s widely viewed as one of the best cover linebackers in the class, with elite speed for the position and the flexibility to line up at off-ball linebacker, nickel, or even on the edge.

That athletic profile lets him cover ground fast and handle work against both the pass and the run. His hands are strong enough to help him reroute receivers and tight ends, and he finishes tackles cleanly.

The questions show up when the play gets more physical. Cole has flashed as a pass rusher, but his technique still needs work if he’s going to be used heavily as a blitzer at the next level.

Against the run, he can struggle when offensive linemen get into him at the second level, and he’s not the kind of linebacker who wins with power. Bigger blockers can wash him out when the action turns downhill.

For the Panthers, though, the appeal is obvious. Devin Lloyd has been an absolute steal for the Panthers (despite paying him gobs of money), and Bobby Okereke has been a solid find as well.

After those two, however, the cupboards are pretty bare after injuries to depth players and the release of Trevin Wallace. A player like Cole would give Carolina another quality cover linebacker and help support the zone scheme under Ejiro Evero.

Even if the defensive coordinator changes next season, Cole still profiles as a versatile defender any coordinator would want on the roster.

Panthers Face An Eagles Backfield Mess With One Big Week 6 Twist

The Eagles backfield has gone from crowded to uncertain in a hurry, and Carolina may be catching a break at exactly the right time. Will Shipleys partial plantar fascia tear in Week 5 added another layer to an already thin situation, with Saquon Barkley working back from a hamstring injury and Tank Bigsby now on injured reserve. For a Panthers defense preparing for Week 6, the matchup suddenly looks a lot different than it did even a few days ago.

Dameon Pierce appears to be the likeliest lead back if the Eagles have to sort through the rotation without full clarity, but Philadelphia still has not announced a starter for Sunday. More injury updates are expected before kickoff, and that uncertainty matters for Carolina because the game plan could hinge on whether the Eagles are trying to lean on a veteran runner, patch things together by committee, or get one of their injured backs cleared at the last minute. Bryce Young Has A Real Chance To Steal One In Philly

The Panthers head to Philadelphia in Week 6 with a 2-2 record and a quarterback who is starting to make the offense feel more stable. Bryce Young has helped Carolina play with more rhythm on that side of the ball, and that matters here because the matchup comes against an Eagles team that has been dealing with injuries and a recent slide.

Philadelphia is still the favorite at home, but this one has the look of a game Carolina can hang around in longer than expected. If the Panthers keep getting clean operation from Young and the offense continues its strong stretch, an upset is very much in play, which would say plenty about where this team is headed early in the 2026 season. Bryce Young Had A ManningCast Moment Panthers Fans Will Love

Bryce Youngs steady start has become one of the best storylines around the Panthers through four games, and it got a fun national spotlight during ESPNs ManningCast on Monday night. Peyton and Eli Manning surprised the Carolina quarterback with a vintage photo of him alongside Kliff Kingsbury from a youth football camp, a small but memorable reminder of how long Young has been on the radar and how far he has come since those early days.

It fit the broader picture in Carolina, where Young has helped stabilize the offense and give a 2-2 team something real to build around. Leading the NFL in passing yards through four games and carrying a 100.0 passer rating, he has made his development one of the most encouraging threads of the young season, and moments like the ManningCast cameo only add to the sense that the Panthers may finally have a quarterback story worth following closely.
