Before Carolina’s Sunday Night Football matchup with the Detroit Lions, the WWE Superstar was on hand to pump up the crowd. Wearing a #26 jersey with her name on it, she pounded the drum before kickoff while Sir Purr urged her to “keep pounding.”
The Panthers gave her something to celebrate. Carolina outlasted Detroit 32-26 in a wild, high-scoring game that featured points in bunches and almost no breathing room.
Flair, born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, has long been one of WWE’s biggest stars. She owns 14 world championships, has won two Royal Rumbles and has captured two Women’s Tag Team Championships, partnering with Alexa Bliss and Asuka.
On the field, the Panthers’ offense was rolling from start to finish. Carolina and Detroit combined for 897 offensive yards across 10 drives apiece, turning the game into a shootout.
Bryce Young kept the Panthers moving with 329 passing yards and two touchdowns, while adding three rushing yards. Tetairoa McMillan was the breakout name of the night, hauling in 14 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
Chubba Hubbard also delivered a big performance, rushing for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
Detroit still posted eye-popping numbers in the loss. Jared Goff went 32 for 52 for 412 yards and a touchdown. Jahmyr Gibbs found the end zone, but Carolina limited him to 46 rushing yards on 16 carries, and he added 31 receiving yards on four catches.
The Panthers head into their bye week on a high. Their next game comes against the Philadelphia Eagles, who just lost a heartbreaker to the Los Angeles Rams. The Lions will try to regroup against the 1-3 Arizona Cardinals.

Jahmyr Gibbs Just Gave Panthers Fans The Weirdest SNF Moment Yet
Sunday Night Football had already given Panthers fans enough to process, but Jahmyr Gibbs added a strange little detour when he introduced himself as being from Hollywood Arts, the fictional school from the TV show Victorious. The moment stood out immediately during the Lions-Panthers matchup, because it was not the kind of standard pregame or broadcast detail viewers usually hear on a national stage.
Social media lit up over the reference, which landed as one of those only-on-SNF oddities that travels fast beyond the game itself. Gibbs has drawn attention before for reasons outside football, including a tattoo, so this latest bit of off-field flair only added to the sense that he keeps finding unexpected ways to stay in the conversation. Panthers Made A Prime-Time Statement Despite One Troubling Issue
Sunday night felt like a long-awaited showcase for Carolina, and the Panthers delivered one of their sharper offensive outings in a decade. It was their first appearance on Sunday Night Football in 10 years, and the group around Bryce Young looked organized enough to make the stage feel a little bigger than the moment. The game also offered a useful snapshot of how this roster is coming together, with Brad Idziks offense finding answers and Ejiro Everos defense doing enough to keep the night competitive.
Still, the film left one issue hard to ignore. The offensive line had rough patches, with Luke Fortner and Robert Hunt both showing their struggles, even as Young kept playing effectively under pressure and Chuba Hubbard turned in a breakout performance. Akayleb Evans had mixed results in coverage, which is the kind of uneven stretch Carolina can live with only if the protection in front of the quarterback steadies itself soon. [Read more 🡒]
Panthers Win Showed Real Growth But Left One New Concern
The Panthers primetime win over the Lions did more than add another result to the ledger. It offered a clear snapshot of a team that looked more connected on both sides of the ball, with the offense finding a better balance between the pass game and the run game and Bryce Young delivering a spotless evening as a passer. Even with the defense missing its top two cornerbacks, Carolina still found enough stability to control enough of the night and show that the progress it has been chasing is starting to show up in games that matter.
Devin Lloyds return gave the defense a lift, but the performance also pointed to where the next step has to come. The Panthers did not consistently get enough pressure on Jared Goff, and that kind of issue can linger even after a good win if it is not cleaned up. There was also concern after injuries to Monroe Freeling and Jaelan Phillips, two absences that could matter quickly if the team is forced to navigate them for any length of time. [Read more 🡒]
