Carolina Panthers Linked to Trade Calls for Veteran QB Andy Dalton

Panthers GM Dan Morgan opens up about Andy Dalton trade discussions, emphasizing transparency and the search for a dynamic backup QB.

The Carolina Panthers are fielding trade inquiries for veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, who has one year remaining on his contract with a $4 million salary for the upcoming season. This development was highlighted during a recent appearance by Panthers GM Dan Morgan on Pat McAfee's podcast.

Morgan acknowledged the possibility of interest from other teams, stating, "There's a potential that somebody may want him. Andy's a really good player and a great culture fit for us. I haven't initiated any trade talks, but if the opportunity arises, I would discuss it with Andy and let him explore his options."

Dalton joined the Panthers in 2023, and over three seasons, he's completed 64.7% of his passes for 1,643 yards, with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His 2025 season included a single start against the Buffalo Bills, where he completed 16 of 24 passes for 175 yards and an interception in a tough loss.

Once a top-tier quarterback in the league, Dalton's career stats include 39,793 passing yards and 254 touchdowns during his stints with the Bengals, Cowboys, Bears, Saints, and Panthers.

Morgan has been transparent with Dalton about the team's plans to add competition for the backup spot behind Bryce Young. "I try to stay honest and transparent with all our players," Morgan explained. "Andy knows he’ll have to compete as we look to bring someone in, either through free agency or the draft."

With Young's injury history, securing a reliable backup is crucial for Carolina. The team is keen on finding a quarterback who can bring mobility to the position when needed.

The potential trade of Dalton and the compensation involved could significantly impact the Panthers' strategy moving forward. Stay tuned to see how this situation unfolds.
