Bryce Young Is Giving Panthers Fans A Real MVP Debate

Bryce Young's ascent in the MVP race continues to defy expectations, despite his team's uneven performances.

Bryce Young’s name is creeping back into the MVP conversation, and the latest bump came after an ugly win that still said plenty about how far he’s come.

The Panthers beat the Eagles on the road, and even with an uneven day against a strong defense, Young did enough to leave Philadelphia with the win. That was notable on its own. What made it even louder was hearing MVP chants after the game in Lincoln Financial Stadium, a building where that kind of reaction is hard to ignore.

Those chants may have been the headline moment, but the market is starting to catch up, too. Young’s MVP odds moved from +5000 to +4500 on DraftKings after Week 5, a number that would have been hard to imagine before the season.

Early on, there was still some skepticism attached to the way people were viewing Young’s play. He was performing well, but the bar had been set so low that every encouraging week came with a little extra shine.

That lens doesn’t hold anymore. After five straight games in which he has been no worse than pretty good, the case is built on real production, not just comparison.

Peter Dewey of SI wrote, "Carolina’s Bryce Young has led his team to a top-10 showing in EPA/Play this season, and he moved from +5000 to +4500 to win MVP after another win in Week 5."

He continued, "Young threw for 281 yards and two scores on Sunday, his fifth straight game with at least 280 passing yards. He has 11 touchdown passes and just two picks, and Carolina is in the driver’s seat to win the NFC South after a 3-2 start."

That’s the bigger story here. The Panthers are moving in the right direction, and Young is the reason why.

His MVP odds are still long, and there are plenty of players ahead of him. If the season ended today, he wouldn’t be a finalist.

But he’s done enough to get some down-ballot buzz, and that in itself is a stunning turn after everything he’s already been through in his first three seasons.

Panthers Trade Deadline Could Expose One Awkward Roster Fit

The Panthers win over the Eagles only sharpened the conversation around Carolinas next move before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. With the roster still searching for upgrades, Sports Illustrated floated a few names that could make sense for the Panthers, including Philadelphia tight end Dallas Goedert, Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen and Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston as potential answers to lingering needs.

One reason the deadline feels intriguing is that Carolina may have to sort through fit as much as talent. Any pursuit would have to account for where those players slot into the current mix, and one possible acquisition could create an awkward overlap on a roster that is still taking shape. The Panthers have a chance to improve, but the bigger question may be whether the best available move actually fits cleanly. [Read more 🡒]

Panthers Depth Chart Shows Carolina's Roster Shift Before Bucs Showdown

The Panthers are carrying a noticeably different look into Week 7 after getting Trevor Etienne, Taylor Moton and Tershawn Wharton back on the active roster before last weeks win over the Eagles. Those moves helped stabilize Carolina for a tough stretch, and now the updated depth chart offers a clearer picture of how the team is sorting out its pieces ahead of a divisional meeting with Tampa Bay.

For a roster that has been shuffled by injuries and weekly adjustments, the new alignment matters because it can shape both the rotation and the game plan against the Buccaneers. The chart lays out where Carolina sees its players at each spot, and with another NFC South test on deck, the details behind those rankings could tell as much about the Panthers current direction as the result itself. Bryce Young Is Forcing A Panthers Debate Nobody Expected This Fast

Bryce Young has turned the first five weeks of 2024 into a very different conversation than the one Carolina expected to be having this soon. After the Panthers exercised his fifth-year option, Young responded by setting a new franchise mark with 11 passing touchdowns through the teams first five games, while helping push Carolina to a 3-2 record entering Week 6.

It has not just been about scoring through the air, either. Young has thrown for 1,549 yards with only two interceptions, and he is currently leading the NFL in passing yards per game. For a team that spent much of the last year searching for stability at quarterback, the bigger question now is no longer whether Young can settle in, but how far this version of the Panthers can go if he keeps playing like this.
