Taylor Hall Explains The Setback That Delayed His Hurricanes Return

Despite an unexpected setback, Taylor Hall's determination to overcome his latest injury highlights his crucial role for the Hurricanes.

Taylor Hall’s road back to the Carolina Hurricanes lineup took an odd detour, and the veteran finally explained why his return got pushed back after he was originally expected to be back on Oct. 27 against the Boston Bruins.

Hall had already been out for two weeks and five games, but that morning in practice he lasted only about five minutes before leaving the ice. He was ruled out again and wound up missing another week after coach Rod Brind’Amour said it was a new injury.

When Hall finally got back into the lineup on Nov. 5 in Carolina’s 5-3 win over the New York Islanders, the total absence had stretched to nine games. Back home, he laid out the strange setback that had stalled him.

"I got tennis elbow from... I don't even know what from," Hall said Saturday morning.

"My original injury is more than healed and I was ready to go from that and then I just really had some elbow issues. Kind of had to wear one of those forearm bands that I see the gentlemen at my golf course wearing.

It feels a lot better now, but for a couple days there, it was kind of debilitating and I didn't realize that that injury could do that. But I'm good now and I'm excited to keep playing."

Hall said the first game back came with some rust, but he also felt signs of his usual game starting to come through.

"[I felt] a little rusty," Hall said. "I thought I had some good plays and I thought I had some bad ones.

It was a fast game. I thought the speed of the game was pretty high.

It won't take long to get back up to speed with the way we play and the way I need to play. I know what's expected and I'm excited to keep going."

Brind'Amour said the team knows exactly what Hall can bring once he gets rolling.

"We know what he's capable of," said Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour. "That was a little bit of a rough game just with having been out for a long time.

It takes a little while to get your flow back and we hadn't really practiced. A little bit unfair there, but you have to get him going.

When he's going and doing what he does, it balances our lines really well and gives us another threat, for sure."

Hurricanes Had Connor Bedard Sounding Defeated After Carolina Rout

Connor Bedard did not sugarcoat Chicagos latest setback after the Blackhawks were routed by Carolina, and the frustration came through in the way the captain assessed his teams play. After a 9-2 loss, Bedard pointed to the record and the defensive breakdowns as the kind of issues that keep piling up when a young club cannot find any traction, even as he noted the group still gets along well away from the rink.

For Carolina, it was another reminder of how punishing the Hurricanes can be when they get rolling, but the bigger takeaway was the tone coming from Chicagos franchise centerpiece. Bedard has 14 points in 12 games this season and only recently signed a five-year extension before being named captain, so the expectations around him are only growing as the Blackhawks try to turn the talent and camaraderie he sees behind the scenes into something sturdier on the ice. Logan Stankoven Is Giving The Hurricanes A Huge New Question

Logan Stankoven has wasted no time turning last springs playoff surge into something much bigger for the Hurricanes. After scoring 11 goals in 19 games during Carolinas championship run, he has opened the 2026-27 season with the kind of pace that makes his breakout look less like a hot streak and more like a new level, especially after finishing last year with 21 goals in 81 games.

For Carolina, the question is no longer whether Stankoven can help, but how far his scoring touch can carry him if it keeps showing up this consistently. He has already hit a few notable personal markers early in the season, and his start has put him on track for a career-best goal total, giving the Hurricanes another offensive layer to sort through as the year unfolds. Canes Cannot Let Jersey Night Become A Trap Game

The Hurricanes head into jersey night with a little extra buzz around the building, unveiling their Hometown Remix look before facing a Chicago team that has spent much of the season searching for traction. Carolina comes in off a win over the Islanders, one in which Logan Stankoven, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Andrei Svechnikov and William Carrier all found the net, a reminder that the scoring can come from different places when the group is rolling.

Chicago still has enough name value to keep the spotlight from drifting too far, with rookies Roman Kantserov and Connor Bedard among the players drawing attention. But the Blackhawks arrive banged up and trying to steady themselves, which is exactly the sort of setup that can test a home favorite if the focus slips for even a period on a night meant to celebrate everything around the game.
