The Carolina Hurricanes got a mixed update on Friday, with Taylor Hall moved to week-to-week because of an upper-body injury while Seth Jarvis appears to be edging closer to a return.
Rod Brind’Amour said Hall will miss time after getting hurt in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Hall played just 4:17, skated in eight shifts during the first period and did not come back. After the game, Brind’Amour said “That doesn’t look good either,” when asked about Hall, though he did not say exactly what happened or when the injury occurred.
Hall has opened the season with three goals and five points in eight games. The 34-year-old is in his first season with Carolina after arriving from the Chicago Blackhawks in a three-team deal during the 2024-25 campaign. He was a major postseason piece last spring, putting up seven goals and 19 points in 19 playoff games as the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup title.
Jarvis, meanwhile, is moving in the right direction after offseason shoulder surgery in June. The 24-year-old took a notable step earlier in October when he dropped the non-contact jersey in practice for the first time, and he is now set to travel with the team.
“It’s probably the biggest step I’ve had so far, getting out of that, being able to take contact now,” Jarvis told reporters after the team’s skate before hosting Vancouver on Thursday night. “Now it’s just a matter of getting comfortable, making sure it’s ready to go.”
Jarvis told The Associated Press in late September that he hoped to be back for Carolina’s two-game trip to Finland against Seattle on Nov. 12 and 14, though he also floated the possibility of returning by the end of October.
The fifth-year forward scored 32 goals and totaled 66 points in 71 games last season.

Hurricanes Perfect Road Start Faces Its Biggest Test Yet
Carolinas perfect road start will be put to work on a five-game swing through Western Canada and St. Louis, and the early test now looks a lot less like a soft landing than a measuring stick. The Hurricanes have been sharp away from home to open the season, but this trip folds in a little of everything, from a back-to-back to the kind of atmosphere that can expose any slow start or sloppy shift.
Winnipeg opens the schedule with an extra layer of intrigue because of its unsettled crease, while the stop in Vancouver brings a rematch with a familiar opponent. Carolina handled the Canucks convincingly in Raleigh earlier this season, and the rematch should tell a little more about whether the Hurricanes road edge is simply a strong opening stretch or something they can keep carrying into a tougher part of the schedule. Hurricanes' Hot Start Just Ran Into A Tough New Test
Carolinas blistering start has already pushed the Hurricanes through some early adversity, and the next stretch arrives with more of it. Even after opening the year with six straight wins and sitting at 6-1-1, Rod BrindAmours team is still juggling the kind of lineup uncertainty that can test a deep roster, especially with key forwards already unavailable.
BrindAmour said Taylor Hall is dealing with an upper-body injury, while Seth Jarvis, who has been working back from offseason shoulder surgery, is nearing a return. Jarvis is expected to travel with the team on the upcoming road trip, and his presence alone gives the Hurricanes a possible lift as they head into a five-game swing and try to keep the momentum rolling. Canes Suddenly Need Their Top Prospects For A Huge Road Test
The Hurricanes are heading into a five-game road trip with some unexpected help on the way, recalling forwards Bradly Nadeau and Felix Unger Sorum from Chicago to join the roster. Both prospects turned heads in preseason and now get a real opportunity to step into the mix as Carolina tries to hold things together away from home.
The timing is driven by injuries at forward, with Taylor Hall dealing with an upper-body issue and Jordan Staal sidelined by a calf injury. Carolina has already had to adjust its depth chart, and the road trip could end up giving both young forwards meaningful minutes as the team looks for answers in the middle of a demanding stretch.
