Hurricanes Stun Mammoth With Wild Finish After Late Two-Goal Deficit

The Hurricanes pulled off one of their most dramatic finishes of the season, flipping the script in the final minutes against the Mammoth.

Hurricanes Pull Off Jaw-Dropping Comeback in Final Two Minutes Against Mammoth

If you left early, you missed a classic.

Thursday night in Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes delivered one of the most improbable finishes of the NHL season, rallying from two goals down in the final two minutes to stun the Utah Mammoth. In a game that looked all but over, the Canes flipped the script with a flurry of goals that left the Lenovo Center shaking and the Mammoth wondering what just happened.

Let’s set the scene: Utah was up 4-2 with under two minutes to play. They had controlled much of the game, and it felt like they were just a few routine clears away from closing out a solid road win. But Carolina had other plans-and their response was nothing short of electric.

It started with Andrei Svechnikov. With 1:59 left on the clock and the Hurricanes on the power play, Svechnikov ripped one past the Utah netminder after Carolina pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Just like that, the door cracked open.

Then came Shayne Gostisbehere, making his return after missing five games due to injury. Talk about timing.

Just over 30 seconds after Svechnikov’s goal, Gostisbehere stepped into a shot and buried the equalizer to tie things at 4-4. First game back, game-tying goal-doesn’t get much more storybook than that.

And then, with the crowd still buzzing, Carolina captain Jordan Staal delivered the knockout punch. With just 29.4 seconds remaining in regulation, Staal found the back of the net to give the Hurricanes a 5-4 lead and complete the stunning turnaround.

The building erupted. The bench exploded.

It was bedlam in the best way.

Three goals. One minute and 30 seconds. Game, set, Canes.

The reaction? As you’d expect, fans lit up social media.

One called it an “absolute cinematic masterpiece.” Another joked, “Thanks for the heart attack btw lol.”

And of course, plenty of love poured in for the captain: “THAT’S OUR CAPTAIN, BABYYY!!!”

And while the offense stole the spotlight, the comeback also bailed out goalie Brandon Bussi, who had a rare off night between the pipes. Bussi gave up four goals on 21 shots-not his sharpest outing-but thanks to the late-game heroics, he avoided taking the loss.

With the win, the Hurricanes improved to 33-15-5 and maintained their grip atop the Metropolitan Division. They’ll aim to keep that momentum rolling as they wrap up their three-game road trip this Saturday against the Washington Capitals.

If Thursday night proved anything, it’s this: don’t ever count out the Canes-not even with two minutes to go.
