The Carolina Hurricanes are almost at the 2026 Prospect Showcase, and this one comes with plenty of eyes on the roster. The event runs from Sept. 13-15 at Lane Arena in Morrisville, NC, after the Hurricanes announced their prospect group and schedule on Sept.
- With Seth Jarvis sidelined for four to six months following shoulder surgery, the showcase now feels even more important for a few young players trying to make their case.
Bradly Nadeau is the obvious headliner. He’s the prospect everyone will be watching, and the timing only amplifies it.
In 2025-26 with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, Nadeau put up 27 goals and 56 points in 52 games, then added seven goals and 17 points in 21 games during the run to a Calder Cup Final appearance. He also got a look with Carolina last season, appearing in 12 games and scoring three goals across two separate call-up stints.
That puts him right in the middle of the conversation as training camp and the four preseason games approach, with the next few weeks potentially shaping whether he can claim a bigger role and show he’s ready to stick in the NHL. The showcase is his first stop.
Charlie Cerrato is another name worth tracking. After two seasons at Penn State, the Hurricanes signed him to a three-year entry-level contract.
His college production was steady and productive: 15 goals and 42 points in 38 games as a freshman in 2024-25, then seven goals and 27 points in 23 games as a sophomore. He closed his collegiate career with 22 goals and 69 points in 61 games.
Cerrato also logged one Calder Cup Playoff game and had no points on a professional tryout with the Wolves after leaving Penn State. Now he heads into his first pro season, and there’s a chance head coach Spiros Anastas could use him in the second-line center spot.
For a player trying to establish himself as part of the next Hurricanes core, this is a meaningful early test.
Filip Ekberg rounds out the trio. The Swedish forward kept building momentum in North America last season with the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League.
After finishing his first OHL season with 16 goals and 45 points in 53 games, the 221st overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft followed that with 24 goals and 46 points in 59 games. He added three goals and eight points in nine games during the 2026 OHL Playoffs.
Before the 2025 Prospect Showcase in Wesley Chapel, FL, The Hockey Writers pointed to his hockey IQ and speed as traits to watch, and he backed that up with a strong second year.
There will be plenty more than three players worth watching over the two games in three days. Felix Unger Sorum and Nadeau could be part of the competition for the open spot on the roster with Jarvis out, while Cerrato gives fans a first look at what he can do as a pro.
The showcase will also offer a chance to see how Wolves head coach Spiros Anastas works with young players. Whether it’s in person at Lane Arena or on the Hurricanes website, this is one of the more interesting stops on the calendar.
