Hurricanes Fans Just Got Another Way To Watch This Season

DIRECTV bolsters its sports offerings by adding the Hurricanes Hockey Network, expanding access to local professional hockey games for fans across their viewing territory.

DIRECTV has added Hurricanes Hockey Network to its lineup through a new multi-year distribution agreement, giving fans another way to watch Carolina hockey beginning with tonight’s game against the St. Louis Blues.

The deal covers HHN pregame, postgame and in-game live broadcasts for DIRECTV customers across the Hurricanes’ broadcast territory. It also extends to DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS, which will carry the network in sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs and other commercial venues in the team’s region.

“We’re thrilled to add DIRECTV as a distribution partner,” said Hurricanes Vice President of Communications Mike Sundheim. “Along with Prime Video, Spectrum and Fubo, our fans and businesses looking to show Hurricanes hockey have an array of options to follow the team as it defends its Stanley Cup championship.”

For viewers at home, HHN will be available to DIRECTV streaming and satellite customers on Choice packages and above, and to U-verse customers on U200 and higher. The channel number will be 650 on streaming and satellite, and 1726/726 on U-verse.

DIRECTV said it has recently secured regional or local rights for 76 of the 81 U.S.-based NHL, NBA or MLB franchises, including multi-year agreements with 23 U.S.-based hockey teams.

“Fan loyalties are incredibly valuable and ought to be rewarded and constantly encouraged,” said Rob Thun, chief content officer at DIRECTV. “We are committed to keeping fans connected to their favorite teams and giving them more choice and flexibility in how they watch and what they pay.

As local sports distribution evolves, DIRECTV brings team channels, regional sports networks, and other viewing options together to make it easier for fans to follow the teams they love. We’re pleased to work with the NHL, NBA, MLB, and others to deliver that experience.”

DIRECTV is one of several outlets carrying the Hurricanes in the 2026-27 season. The team already announced that its games will stream direct-to-consumer on Prime Video, while Spectrum and Fubo are also carrying Hurricanes Hockey Network throughout the club’s regional territory.

That territory stretches across all of North Carolina and South Carolina, plus most of Georgia and parts of Alabama. Fans outside the Hurricanes’ television footprint can still watch through NHL Power Play on the ESPN App or NHL Center Ice.

Hurricanes Still Face A Nikishin Problem With No Easy Fix

Alexander Nikishin remains a lingering issue for Carolina as the defenseman and the Hurricanes still have not bridged the gap on a contract. The team has a one-year offer out there, but Nikishin has not signed it, and he is not playing while the sides remain at an impasse.

For Carolina, the frustration is that this is not a simple deadline squeeze. Nikishin is a 10.2(c) restricted free agent, so the Hurricanes are not forced into a December 1 decision, even as the situation has already turned into one of those roster questions that can hang around and complicate the bigger picture until it gets resolved. Seth Jarvis Just Reminded Hurricanes Fans What They Were Missing

Seth Jarvis slipped right back into the Hurricanes lineup and into the sort of role that makes his absence so noticeable. Activated from injured reserve and back on the ice for Carolina against the Edmonton Oilers, Jarvis returned for his first game since June after recovering from shoulder surgery, giving the team an immediate jolt with his pace, energy and willingness to get involved all over the rink.

Jarvis did not sound like a player interested in treating the night as a finished product, either, noting there is still work to do on the defensive side. Even so, his return offered a reminder of why Carolina has missed him, with a goal in his comeback showing that the impact can come quickly when he is healthy and around the puck. [Read more 🡒]

Hurricanes Get One More Tough Test Before This Road Trip Ends

The Hurricanes have already banked five of eight possible points on this road trip, and the last stop before heading home brings another test in St. Louis. The Blues look different than they did a year ago after an offseason that included moving Jordan Kyrou and bringing in Connor McMichael, while Mason McTavish has quickly become one of their more important offensive pieces.

Carolina is still navigating a thin lineup, even with Seth Jarvis back in the mix, and the injury list remains part of the story as the trip wears on. St. Louis is dealing with its own health concerns, so this one has the feel of a matchup where depth and discipline may matter as much as the top lines, especially with the road trip winding down and both clubs trying to sort out where they stand.
