The Calgary Flames are expected to bring in Alex Nylander on a professional tryout, according to a Tuesday night report from PuckPedia.
Nylander, 28, spent the 2025-26 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, and put together one of the best offensive years of his pro career. In 65 regular-season games, he scored 24 goals and set career highs with 29 assists and 53 points. He kept it rolling in the playoffs, adding six goals and an assist for seven points in 24 AHL postseason games as the Marlies captured the Calder Cup championship.
Over eight AHL seasons, Nylander has built up 307 points in 459 career regular-season games, with 141 goals and 166 assists. He’s also produced 14 points in 35 career Calder Cup Playoff games, scoring 10 goals and four assists.
His last NHL action came in 2024-25 with Toronto. Across 126 career regular-season games with the Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres, Nylander has 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points.
The right-shot winger was selected eighth overall by Buffalo in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Before that, he posted 75 points in 57 games in his lone junior season in North America with the Ontario Hockey League’s Mississauga Steelheads. The year before, he played for AIK Jr. in Sweden’s developmental league and recorded 40 points in 42 games.
Calgary’s 2025-26 regular season ended at 34-39-9, good for 77 points. That left the Flames seventh in the Pacific Division and 13 points out of the Western Conference’s second wild-card spot.
