The Calgary Flames are lining up a season full of different looks for 2026-27, and the jersey schedule has a little something for every kind of fan: the standard red, the 2004 throwback, and the still-secret Hometown Remix.
The team unveiled the plan during the first period of Tuesday night’s pre-season game against the Vancouver Canucks, and one of the big notes is the return of the 2004 home jersey. That sweater came with drawstrings on the front, the flaming horse - Blasty - on the shoulder, and a black Flaming C crest, and it’s back for a small but pointed run.
The Flames are saving that retro jersey for home games against the four opponents they faced in 2004. They wore that look from 2003-07, before the league moved to the Reebok Edge template and the classic red jersey picked up extra stripes and piping.
Most nights at home, though, it’ll be the familiar red. The Flames listed 29 home dates for the classic jersey, starting Oct. 1 against Vancouver and running through the final Saddledome home game on Apr. 10 against Vancouver.
That group also includes games against Colorado, Anaheim, Carolina, Minnesota, Toronto, Seattle, Chicago, Winnipeg, Florida, the New York Islanders, Montreal, New Jersey, Vegas, Utah, Boston, Pittsburgh, Ottawa, Edmonton, Nashville, Dallas, St. Louis, and Los Angeles.
The 2004 retro jersey gets four outings: Oct. 24 against Detroit, Dec. 26 against Vancouver, Dec. 29 against San Jose, and Jan. 9 against Tampa Bay.
The new Hometown Remix jersey will get nine home dates, beginning Nov. 6 against Anaheim and ending Jan. 16 against Los Angeles. The other games in that stretch are Nov. 8 against Philadelphia, Nov. 11 against the New York Rangers, Dec. 3 against Buffalo, Dec. 5 against Washington, Dec. 8 against Nashville, Jan. 12 against Columbus, and Jan. 14 against San Jose.
Both alternate jerseys will be worn by mid-January, and the Flames will finish the last 17 home games at the Saddledome in their classic 1980s retro red jerseys.
The Hometown Remix sweater has not been revealed yet, though it is expected to get a league-wide unveiling around the start of the regular season. It is rumored to feature a yellow C and a Saddledome tribute theme.

Andrei Kuzmenkos preseason routine has been interrupted by far more than hockey. The Penguins forward left camp after practicing with the team and is taking a leave of absence following the death of his father, Alexander Kuzmenko, a hockey coach who died from injuries sustained in a bear attack during a fishing trip in Russia. Pittsburgh expressed its condolences as Kuzmenko stepped away to be with his family.

Flames Already Have An Early Special Teams Concern To Watch
The preseason opener offered the first small warning sign for Calgarys special teams, even if it came in August hockey with all the usual caveats. In a 4-2 loss to Seattle, the Flames gave up two power-play goals, and the penalty kill immediately became something to monitor as the team starts sorting out roles for the fall.
The Flames have generally been above average in that department since the 2021-22 season, so one rough night does not change the bigger picture. Still, the early look at a likely kill group featuring Jacob Middleton, Zach Whitecloud, Yan Kuznetsov, Kevin Bahl, Mikael Backlund, Joel Farabee, Yegor Sharangovich and Jonathan Huberdeau makes this worth watching, especially once the pace and personnel get closer to regular-season conditions.
