Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele Stuns Crowd with Cal Journey Insights at Major Event

Celebrated at the Pop Warner Ceremony, Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele shares insights into his remarkable journey at Cal, blending faith, community, and ambition for the coming season.

Football season might be months away, but the excitement was palpable at the Grand Bay Hotel in Redwood City, where Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele and Stanford's Andrew Luck were celebrated as Glenn “Pop” Warner Memorial Trophy recipients. This prestigious award, recognizing the best college football player in the West, was a fitting tribute to their incredible contributions to the game.

Sagapolutele, reflecting on his freshman season with the Bears, expressed heartfelt gratitude. "It's a blessing, receiving any award," he shared, acknowledging the support from his faith and community.

Luck, honored for his iconic 2010 season with Stanford, was equally thrilled. "I'm honored and thrilled about receiving this award retroactively, especially considering Pop’s history with Stanford," he said.

The revival of this award, thanks to former Stanford quarterback John Paye, marked a significant moment for both players, who found themselves in the spotlight, mingling with fellow football legends.

Sagapolutele, a native of Hawaii, took a moment to reflect on his journey. "Who could’ve imagined?"

he said, marveling at his rapid transition from Ewa Beach to Berkeley. "I'm just so thankful and so grateful that I get to show out for all the people that love Cal and that continue to support us."

His freshman year was a whirlwind, but Sagapolutele has clearly found his footing at Cal. "I'm not going home for a while," he admitted, embracing his new home and the academic challenges that come with it. "I'll continue to make sure I'm eligible to play and not just be eligible, but to excel in academics."

Looking forward to the 2026 season, Sagapolutele is optimistic about working with new head coach Tosh Lupoi and offensive coordinator Jordan Somerville. "We have a great bunch of guys that we just got, and I'm really excited to continue to build relationships," he said. "Coach Tosh is building a great culture; we all believe in it, and we all love him."

After a 7-6 finish in 2025, the Bears have retooled their program, bringing in fresh faces and strategies. Sagapolutele is confident about the future.

"They can expect great things," he promised. "We're a sleeper team for sure."

When asked about the possibility of a College Football Playoff berth, he didn't shy away. "I think we can," he said. "Anything's possible."

Sagapolutele's impact goes beyond the field. His "JKS" apparel line is set to launch at the Cal Student Store, a testament to his growing influence and popularity. "Hopefully, it's a good turnout," he said, excited about the release.

The buzz around Sagapolutele and the Bears is real, and as Week 1 approaches, Cal fans have every reason to be excited. The season can't come soon enough.
