The Bears just landed a major piece for their secondary, picking up Georgia cornerback Daniel Harris out of the transfer portal - and this is a big one.
Harris, a junior in 2025, saw action in 13 games for the Bulldogs, starting four of them, including some of the biggest stages in college football: the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff semifinal. That kind of experience doesn’t just show up in the portal every day. He finished the season with 22 tackles and three pass breakups - solid production for a player competing in the heart of the SEC, where every rep is earned.
At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Harris brings the kind of length and athleticism that defensive coordinators covet on the outside. He’s a fluid mover with the speed to recover and the physicality to press at the line.
That combination makes him a versatile asset in both man and zone coverage schemes. And for a Bears team looking to bolster its defensive backfield, Harris isn’t just a depth add - he’s a player who could push for a starting role right away.
Coming out of Gulliver Prep in Miami, Harris was a highly touted recruit. Rated a four-star prospect, he was the No. 16 cornerback and No. 157 overall player in the country according to 247Sports.
His senior year was a showcase of his all-around game: 49 tackles, a tackle for loss, two interceptions, and a pass breakup - plus nearly 100 yards in kickoff returns. And if you’re wondering about his athletic ceiling, look no further than his track background.
As a sophomore, he clocked a 10.74 in the 100-meter dash and placed top-10 in both the 100 and 200 meters at the Florida state championships.
That kind of speed doesn’t just show up on the stopwatch - it’s evident in how he closes on receivers and breaks on the ball. He’s not just fast, he’s football fast - and that matters.
Harris had his pick of powerhouse programs coming out of high school. He chose Georgia over offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, and plenty of others. That tells you what kind of talent we’re talking about here - and what kind of upside the Bears are betting on.
With Harris now in the fold, the Bears are adding a corner with big-game experience, elite athleticism, and a recruiting pedigree that suggests his best football might still be ahead of him. Keep an eye on this one - he could be a difference-maker in the secondary sooner rather than later.
