The wait is almost over for Brayton Feister.
After a midsummer delay, the nation’s top uncommitted player in the 2027 college football recruiting class is set to choose a school in the coming days, with Friday, August 14 marked as the day he’ll come off the board.
Feister, a consensus four-star linebacker ranked No. 10 at his position out of high school, has trimmed things to four finalists. The northeast Ohio native has a mix of heavy hitters in the hunt: Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon and Cal.
Right now, the buzz points hard in one direction. Oregon is widely viewed as the favorite, with the 247Sports Crystal Ball and Rivals analysts both projecting the Ducks to land him.
That would fit the way this recruitment has unfolded. Oregon was the first major program to offer Feister back in May and has stayed front and center ever since. He has made multiple trips to Eugene and took his official visit there in mid-June, a sign the Ducks have never really left his mind.
What keeps pulling Feister toward Oregon is pretty clear from the source material: stability, fit, and the program’s track record of developing talent. He’s especially drawn to the way Oregon has turned highly touted safety prospects into NFL picks who later move to linebacker at the next level. So far, the Ducks haven’t changed their pitch.
Feister’s profile has only grown stronger since his transfer to Massillon Washington, the Ohio football powerhouse where Paul Brown played and coached nearly a century ago. He’s known as a star tackler, and now he’s about to make one of the biggest decisions in the 2027 cycle.
Ohio State has been in the mix from the start, and not just because it’s the hometown option. James Laurinaitis made the offer personally, and the Buckeyes have kept in touch consistently.
Feister has called Ohio State a dream school and said he grew up a Buckeyes fan. He also praised Laurinaitis’ development work, pointing to Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles, along with Ohio State’s long history at linebacker.
Still, he never took an official visit to Columbus during the process.
Georgia entered the race in March when co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann extended an offer. Feister later visited Athens officially in June, and he had strong words for the Bulldogs’ ability to send middle-of-the-field defenders to the NFL. “Insane” was how Feister put it, while also offering high praise for Smart’s program as one NFL personnel have described as the best school for developing linebackers, in particular.
Cal, meanwhile, made its move in January. First-year head coach Tosh Lupoi offered Feister a scholarship and tried to lean on his own background as Oregon’s defensive coordinator.
The appeal there is obvious enough: a chance for immediate playing time, plus the pull of Cal’s business school. Feister also likes what Lupoi has done with defenses.
By Friday, the recruiting picture will finally clear up. And if the current projections hold, Oregon is the school most people expect to win the Feister sweepstakes.
