California football is making a new kind of history this season.
For the first time in the program’s 144-year run, Golden Bears games will be available in Spanish. Starting this year, Cal will provide a Spanish livestream for every home game on the Cal Football and Cal Athletics YouTube pages.
Ron Rivera said the move is meant to reach a big part of the Bay Area community. “Not every school has the opportunity and resources to embark on a venture like this,” said Hispanic Football Hall of Famer and Cal Football Athletic Director and General Manager Ron Rivera. “Over a quarter of the San Francisco Bay Area population is Spanish-speaking, and we want them to be a part of what we are building in Berkeley.”
The broadcast team for the new venture will feature Carlos M. Ramirez, Jesus Zarate and Enrique Zarate.
Ramirez, who works as a broadcaster on AppleTV for Major League Soccer and also has roles with NFL International, will make his Cal Football debut against Clemson on Sept. 25.
Jesus and Enrique Zarate will be on the call for the first-ever California football game in Spanish on Sept. 5, when the Bears open the 2026 season against UCLA at California Memorial Stadium. Both currently serve as the lead Spanish play-by-play broadcasters for the San Francisco 49ers.
Cal is also launching a new Spanish Instagram page, “vamososos,” which will mirror content from the main football account with Spanish subtitles and include original Spanish-language material.

Cal Football Just Landed A Deal That Changes The Bigger Picture
Cals latest move off the field reaches well beyond football, with the university striking a logo-patch sponsorship deal with Dialpad that gives the Bay Area tech company a prominent place across the athletic department. The agreement brings Dialpad branding to Memorial Stadium, Haas Pavilion and other facilities, and it reflects a growing push for schools to turn alumni ties and corporate relationships into something more durable for the entire program.
Craig Walker, Dialpads CEO and a Cal alumnus, pointed to the number of Cal graduates in key athletic roles as part of what made the partnership feel natural. The deal also sets the stage for a deeper tech connection around the fan experience, with AI-powered services expected to become part of how Cal handles ticketing and support, a reminder that the bigger picture in college sports now extends well past the scoreboard. Cal Optimism Is Rising Around Tosh Lupoi And A Crucial Next Step
Cal football is about to find out what a new era looks like, with the season set to begin Sept. 5 and Tosh Lupoi making his debut as head coach. The attention naturally falls on Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele too, who enters his second year as the starting quarterback, giving the Bears at least a little continuity in a season built around change.
General manager Ron Rivera has already helped set the tone around the program by praising Lupois leadership and pointing to Sagapoluteles development as a reason for belief. He also likes the way the roster around them is coming together, with the Bears supporting cast looking improved enough to make the first few weeks feel especially important as the team tries to turn optimism into something more concrete. Collin Morikawa Has Cal Fans Watching A Huge Weekend Sweat
Collin Morikawa has Cal fans glued to the leaderboard heading into the weekend at East Lake Golf Club, where the Tour Championship is wrapping up the FedEx Cup playoffs. The final event carries plenty of weight on its own, with only 30 players in the field and a $40 million purse on the line, but for Bears supporters the added intrigue is simple: one of their own is still very much in the hunt.
Morikawa has put himself in position after two steady rounds, hanging near the top of the board as the chase continues behind Ryan Gerard and Viktor Hovland. He is still within striking distance and has given Cal a real reason to keep watching, even if the margin remains slim and the pressure only figures to rise from here. [Read more 🡒]
