Cal’s non-conference slate now has its headline games in place, and the Bears will get a little of everything: a former Pac-12 foe, a ranked SEC visitor, and a neutral-site meeting with one of the nation’s stronger programs.
The athletic department officially announced the schedule Monday, confirming what had previously been reported. Cal, which finished 22-12 in 2025-26, opens the season at Haas Pavilion on Monday, Nov. 2 against Adams State.
The most eye-catching home date comes three games later, when USC visits Berkeley on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The Trojans went 18-14 last season and were listed No. 13 in Dick Vitale’s preseason top 25. Their roster is built around a highly touted freshman group that includes three McDonald’s All-Americans: Christian Collins, a 6-foot-9 forward from Inglewood, Calif., who ESPN ranked as the nation’s No. 5 prospect; and twins Adonis Ratliff, a 6-foot-11 forward, and Darius Ratliff, a 7-foot center, both sons of former NBA star Theo Ratliff.
USC also brings back sophomore guard Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA all-star Gilbert Arenas. He averaged 14.1 points last season after missing the first 18 games because of injury.
Another big home test arrives on Sunday, Dec. 12, when Vanderbilt comes to Berkeley. The Commodores are No. 21 in Vitale’s early top 25 after going 27-9 a year ago and reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament. Vanderbilt’s top returnee is Tyler Tanner, a 6-foot junior guard who averaged 19.5 points and 5.1 assists last season and earned first-team All-SEC honors.
Before that, Cal will see Houston in a neutral-site matchup that is part of a quadruple header at the Caesars Lake Tahoe Classic. That game is set for Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Tahoe Blue Events Center.
Houston finished 30-7 last season and advanced to the Sweet 16, and Vitale has the Cougars at No. 12 in his preseason rankings. Coach Kelvin Sampson added a top-20 high school recruiting class and senior point guard transfer Dedan Thomas Jr., who put up 15.3 points and 6.5 assists in 16 games at LSU before a season-ending foot injury.
The Bears also have a trip to face Minnesota on Saturday, Nov. 28 in Sioux Falls, SD, plus their lone non-conference road game on an opponent’s home floor: Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Utah in Salt Lake City.
Cal’s other home non-conference games are Nov. 4 against Radford, Nov. 14 against Utah Tech, Nov. 19 against East Texas A&M, Nov. 23 against Alabama State, Dec. 10 against Southeastern Louisiana, Dec. 12 against Southern, and Dec. 22 against Northeastern.
