EA Sports Has BYU Fans Fuming Over Cannon DeVries Blunder

Gamers are in an uproar as EA Sports faces backlash for a glaring misrepresentation of a BYU football star in their latest release.

EA Sports is taking heat from fans after a glaring likeness mistake in ‘College Football 27’ put BYU cornerback Cannon DeVries in the middle of the conversation.

The issue blew up when one X user compared DeVries’ official BYU headshot with his in-game model. The details around his jersey number, position, and stats lined up, but the face did not. Fans quickly noticed that the digital version looked nothing like the real player, and screenshots started spreading fast across social media.

DeVries, a sophomore cornerback who has been on BYU’s roster since 2023, is listed in real life as a white athlete from Provo, Utah. In the game, though, his character appears with much darker skin and different facial features, including a mustache and short dreads.

That mismatch set off a wave of jokes and criticism online. “The likeness is impeccable, almost frightening,” said user wrote in a tweet.

“EA missed just a couple key details for BYU cornerback Cannon DeVries in CFB27😭,” CFB Kings posted, along with a side-by-side comparison.

Another fan went straight at the facial hair detail: “Right he doesn’t even have a mustache! The lack of attention to detail is disgusting!”

Someone else added, “Damn how did they not know he shaved his mustache🤦🏼‍♂️,” while another comment took the joke even further: “they nailed the height, weight, hometown, and jersey number and then just invented an entirely new human. incredible attention to detail,” one comment read.

The backlash landed only days after ‘College Football 27’ launched in early access. The game includes all 138 FBS programs, new Dynasty features tied to NIL deals, and expanded customization modes. Reviews have praised the gameplay improvements, but the DeVries likeness mistake quickly became one of the first viral storylines attached to the release.

Egor Demin Is Starting To Look Like BYUs Next Real NBA Hit

Egor Demins first summer-league showing for Brooklyn offered a reminder of why the former BYU guard has stayed on the radar since the Nets took him with the No. 8 pick in 2025. After an injury-shortened rookie year that limited him to 52 games, Demin looked more settled against Sacramento, leading Brooklyn with 23 points and seven rebounds while shooting 8-of-15 in a game the Nets had every chance to steal.

The result still went against Brooklyn, 79-76, but the bigger takeaway for the Nets was the way Demin carried himself as a second-year player. He sounded comfortable talking about the responsibility that comes with being one of the younger faces in the room, and performances like this are the kind that make a team start to see more than just a promising prospect.
