BYU's AJ Dybantsa Stuns With Record-Breaking Performance Against Top-Ranked Arizona

BYU's AJ Dybantsa continues to impress by matching a freshman scoring record in a remarkable performance against Arizona, with the chance to set a new milestone still in reach.

AJ Dybantsa is making waves in the NCAA, carving out his spot in the history books with a performance that fans won't soon forget.

Dropping 35 points against No. 4 Arizona, Dybantsa tied the legendary Michael Beasley and Trae Young for the most 35-point games by a freshman in Division I history, each with five. With six regular-season games left, he's poised to set a new benchmark.

In the Cougars’ 75-68 battle at the McKale Center, Dybantsa shot 13-of-28 from the field, proving once again why he's a standout. The 6-foot-9 forward from Brockton, Massachusetts, has now topped 30 points six times this season, underscoring a debut campaign that's nothing short of remarkable.

Despite BYU (19-7, 7-6 Big 12) missing starting guard Richie Saunders, sidelined by a season-ending ACL injury, Dybantsa stepped up. His offensive prowess was on full display, blending drives, midrange shots, and perimeter scoring to carry the team.

Adding another feather to his cap, Dybantsa surpassed Danny Ainge for BYU’s single-season freshman scoring record. Ainge's mark of 632 points, set in 1978, was eclipsed when Dybantsa executed a smooth euro-step finish in the first half, pushing his season total beyond that milestone.
