BYU Lands Oregon Transfer in Major Homecoming Move at Tight End

BYU shores up its tight end depth with a big in-state addition from the transfer portal.

The BYU Cougars are adding a familiar face to their tight end room - and for Roger Saleapaga, it’s a return home.

The former Oregon Duck and Orem High standout announced his commitment to BYU on Friday evening, officially making the move via social media. It's a homecoming that brings both size and potential to a position group in need of depth.

At 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, Saleapaga brings a physical presence to Provo. While his time at Oregon was limited - he saw only sparse action over two seasons - the talent that made him a 3-star recruit in the Class of 2024 is still there. Sometimes, all a player needs is the right fit and the right opportunity, and BYU might just be that place for him.

The timing couldn’t be better for the Cougars. With veteran tight end Carsen Ryan graduating after the 2025 season, BYU’s tight end room was looking thin heading into the offseason. The addition of USC transfer Walker Lyons was a strong move, and now with Saleapaga in the mix, the position is starting to take shape again.

For BYU, this is more than just a depth move. Saleapaga has the tools to develop into a contributor - a big-bodied target who can block and catch, and who knows the Utah football landscape well. For Saleapaga, it’s a chance to reset, reconnect with his roots, and carve out a bigger role in an offense that knows how to utilize tight ends.

This transfer marks another step in BYU's ongoing effort to reload and reinforce key positions as they continue to navigate the challenges of Power Five football. And for Saleapaga, it’s a second chance - one that comes with the comfort of home and the promise of opportunity.
