No. 10 BYU Set to Host Familiar Foe Pacific in Tuesday Night Matchup
PROVO, Utah - BYU is in the thick of a four-game home stand, and next up on the docket is a familiar face. The 10th-ranked Cougars welcome Pacific to the Marriott Center on Tuesday night, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
MT. The game will stream on ESPN+, with Dave McCann, Blaine Fowler, and Spencer Linton on the call.
This isn’t just another non-conference clash. Pacific, a former West Coast Conference opponent, brings a bit of history with them - and BYU has owned the recent chapters.
The Cougars hold an 18-7 all-time edge over the Tigers, including a dominant 9-2 mark in Provo. In fact, BYU has won six straight against Pacific at the Marriott Center, the most recent being an 81-66 victory back in February of 2023, when both teams were still WCC rivals.
That 2023 matchup was a showcase of BYU’s interior strength. Fousseyni Traore put together a monster performance, dropping 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds - seven of those on the offensive glass.
He was relentless, creating second-chance opportunities and setting the tone physically. Gideon George wasn’t far behind, notching a double-double of his own with 12 points and 10 boards.
It was a night where BYU’s frontcourt simply outmuscled the Tigers.
Off the bench, Rudi Williams and Jaxson Robinson added a combined 22 points, giving BYU a scoring punch that Pacific struggled to contain. That kind of depth has been a hallmark of recent Cougar squads - and it's something they'll look to leverage again on Tuesday.
While the conference ties are now in the rearview mirror, the familiarity between these two programs still lingers. And for BYU, this matchup is another opportunity to keep building momentum at home, where they've been tough to beat. With the Marriott Center crowd behind them and a top-10 ranking to defend, the Cougars will look to extend their dominance over a former league rival.
