BYU Fans Have A Clear Rooting Guide For A Huge Weekend

BYU looks to capitalize on a weekend of potential upsets and key victories to strengthen its College Football Playoff ambitions.

No. 2 BYU gets back to work Saturday, and the big picture is simple: the Cougars need to handle UCF first, but a full Saturday slate around the country could also do some heavy lifting for their playoff case.

BYU’s immediate challenge comes in the Bounce House against a Knights team that is 3-3, coming off a bye, and hunting for a statement win. For the Cougars, the mission is to stay unbeaten and keep sitting near the top of the AP poll.

Nothing matters more than taking care of business there. But if BYU wants its playoff path to keep opening up, it also needs a few key results elsewhere.

The Big 12 race is deep into the heart of conference play now, and that means the league itself could shape BYU’s resume in a hurry. One result that would help is #25 Arizona over Iowa State.

Arizona is 5-1 and has handled every opponent since losing to BYU, which makes the Wildcats more valuable every time they win. The better Noah Fifita and company look, the better that BYU win ages.

The Utah-Houston game gives BYU a strange kind of double benefit. Either #10 Utah beating #14 Houston or #14 Houston beating #10 Utah can work for the Cougars.

In the long run, it helps BYU if Utah loses and eventually falls out of the Big 12 championship picture. But if Utah wins, that sets up a chance for BYU to land another top-10 win in 2026.

Cincinnati also matters in the Big 12 picture, and a Bearcats win over #8 Texas Tech would give BYU a little more breathing room in a crowded race. There is a path where BYU finishes 8-1 in league play and still misses the conference title game, especially if the one loss comes to Utah. A Texas Tech stumble would help soften that risk.

That same logic applies to the conference teams BYU will actually face. In tiebreaker scenarios, it helps the Cougars when the opponents on their Big 12 schedule beat the teams they do not play. That is why BYU fans should be pulling for TCU over West Virginia and Arizona State over Kansas State.

There are also plenty of non-Big 12 games worth watching because they can shrink the margin for other playoff contenders. #19 Texas beating #7 Ole Miss would be useful for BYU, even with Texas struggling the last two weeks. The Longhorns still have trips to LSU, Missouri, and Texas A&M remaining, and the idea here is that if Texas knocks off Ole Miss, the Rebels are more likely to take a second loss.

Michigan over #6 Indiana would also help. Indiana already took its first loss in heartbreaking fashion against Ohio State, and the committee has clearly given the Hoosiers some respect.

If Indiana and BYU both end up with one loss, Indiana is the team likely to get the edge. The Hoosiers do not have many hurdles left after Michigan, with USC at home their only other major test.

Two SEC road spots also matter. South Carolina over #11 Tennessee would be a boost, since any one-loss SEC team can complicate things for BYU and the Big 12.

Likewise, Vanderbilt over #12 Kentucky would dent another one-loss SEC resume. Kentucky has picked up national attention with wins over LSU and Oklahoma, so an upset here would change the temperature around its playoff hopes.

Out in the Big Ten, Michigan State over #9 UCLA would be a welcome outcome for BYU. UCLA is the conference’s only remaining unbeaten team, and because it plays in the Big Ten, it is the kind of team that can keep getting the benefit of the doubt if it stays perfect. One or two losses would make the league’s top tier look a lot less threatening to BYU.

Texas A&M over #13 Alabama would be another major assist. Alabama is already in danger after back-to-back losses to Georgia and Tennessee, and another defeat could be the knockout punch to its playoff chances.

Minnesota over #15 Iowa would also help chip away at a team with a soft finish. Iowa is 5-1 and has a light path the rest of the way; the only ranked opponent left on the schedule is #24 Northwestern. That is exactly why the Big 12 would want the Hawkeyes to absorb a loss or two.

And then there is the headline-grabber: Pitt over #1 Miami. If BYU fans want to dream big, every little bit helps the No. 1 spot stay within reach. Miami is heavily favored, but last week showed that the unexpected can show up fast.

BYU Suddenly Has A Backfield Question That Could Shape Everything

Bear Bachmeiers week of national recognition and Cade Uluaves conference honor after the win over Notre Dame put a bright spotlight on BYU, but the Cougars also came out of that game with a more practical question hanging over the offense. With LJ Martin and Sione Moa both slowed by injuries, backup runners Preston Rex and Journee Tonga were forced into bigger roles, and they answered with enough impact to keep the offense moving in one of the biggest wins of the season.

Now the attention shifts to what comes next in the backfield, especially with BYU continuing to assess Moas readiness after a history of injury. Kalani Sitake praised the growth and contributions of the running backs, but the Cougars still have to sort out how much depth they truly have and how they want to use it as the season moves forward. BYU Fans Will Want To See Where Bear Bachmeier Ranks Now

Week 7 in the Big 12 offered another useful snapshot of the quarterback landscape, and for BYU fans, it is the kind of week that naturally shifts the conversation toward where Bear Bachmeier fits among the leagues best. The latest review of conference passers pulled together recent performances, matchup context and team stakes before setting up a fresh top-eight ranking entering Week 8, giving a clear sense of how much movement there has been at the position.

For BYU, the interest is not just in where Bachmeier lands, but in what the ranking says about the Cougars place in the Big 12 conversation overall. With another round of league games on deck, the quarterback pecking order remains fluid, and the next update could look very different depending on who keeps playing at a high level and who seizes the biggest stage in Week 8. BYU Is Suddenly Right In The Middle Of The No. 1 Fight

A wild weekend in college football shook up the top of the rankings, and BYU suddenly finds itself right in the middle of the No. 1 conversation. Miami moved to the top spot after Georgias loss to Auburn, but the picture is anything but settled, with the AP poll, ESPNs algorithm and plenty of outside voices all pointing in different directions as the season turns toward its next big test.

The Cougars were right there in the debate, finishing with 20 first-place votes in the AP poll as the sports usual hierarchy started to wobble. Brian Kelly, speaking as a college football analyst and former coach, voiced confidence in Kirby Smart even after the upset, another sign that there is no clean consensus at the top and no shortage of contenders waiting for the chaos to sort itself out.
