In Provo, Utah, BYU's standout freshman AJ Dybantsa continues to make waves, earning First Team All-American honors from both the NABC and USBWA. Standing tall at 6-foot-9, Dybantsa joins the ranks of BYU legends Jimmer Fredette and Danny Ainge as one of the few players in the program's history to receive multiple First Team All-American nods.
Hailing from Brockton, Massachusetts, Dybantsa has been a scoring machine, hitting double figures in all 34 games of his collegiate career. As the NCAA Tournament approaches, he's leading the nation with an impressive 25.3 points per game. His shooting stats are nothing short of remarkable, hitting 51.3% from the field, 34.0% from beyond the arc, and 76.4% from the charity stripe.
Dybantsa's scoring prowess is highlighted by his consistency, having scored 20 or more points in 27 games this season. He’s on a tear with a 13-game streak of 20-plus points, the second-longest in BYU history. Notably, he set the freshman single-game scoring record with a 43-point explosion against Utah in a memorable 91-78 victory at the Marriott Center.
His stellar performance earned him the Big 12 Freshman of the Year title, thanks to his averages of 25.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game in conference play. Dybantsa also showcased his versatility with two double-doubles, including a standout 20-point, 13-rebound effort in an overtime win against Colorado on Valentine’s Day.
Looking ahead, BYU is set to tip off their NCAA Tournament journey on Thursday, March 19. They'll face the winner of Texas and NC State, with the game scheduled for 4:25 p.m.
