A Bills fan’s night at Highmark Stadium turned from celebration to emergency in a hurry Thursday, even as Buffalo opened the new building with a 41-31 win over Detroit.
Sarah Carroll said she was in section 420 after the Bills’ second touchdown when the crowd movement around her went wrong. In a post on the Bills Mafia Babes Facebook page, she said she was jumping up and down to celebrate when someone hit her from behind.
“I ended up flipping over the row in front of me and landed on my head in row 1,” Carroll wrote.
What happened next, she said, was the part she’s now trying to hold onto. While people nearby reacted in shock, one man rushed in to help.
“He used his flag he had to try and stop the bleeding,” Carroll explained. “I really want to thank him and buy him a new flag!”
Carroll said the fall left her with 11 staples in her head and a fractured wrist. Even after that, she kept the tone of her post focused on gratitude, not complaint. She also apologized to fans who saw her being wheeled out by medics with blood on her.
Her main goal, though, is finding the stranger from Section 420 who stepped up when she needed it. Buffalo sports account @lisaunger_716 helped spread the word on X, posting, “Posting this here so more people can see it! Let’s find him #BillsMafia.”
The message has picked up steam among Bills fans, many of whom are eager to identify the man and connect him with Carroll. And while Highmark Stadium’s debut has already sparked plenty of discussion for other reasons, Carroll’s experience gives opening night a different kind of headline - one built around a quick act of help in the middle of chaos.
