The Buffalo Sabres are in a groove, and despite a tough 4-3 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins, they're not letting it shake their confidence. Captain Rasmus Dahlin emphasized the importance of reviewing and correcting mistakes, and the team wasted no time getting back to work at KeyBank Center.
Coach Lindy Ruff and his staff were quick to outline drills, focusing on fine-tuning their game. Even with an impressive 26 out of 30 possible points since the Olympic break, the Sabres are committed to learning from every experience.
Forward Alex Tuch highlighted their approach: "find it, fix it, forget about it." This mindset has been key in their success, as they haven’t lost back-to-back games in regulation since early December. Their record of 33-6-4 speaks volumes about their resilience and focus as they eye a playoff spot.
Tuch noted a shift in the team’s mentality after losses, saying, “It’s more of like, ‘Hey, we didn’t have our best’ instead of the confidence dropping.” This ability to bounce back quickly has been crucial.
Despite a shaky start against Boston, the Sabres rallied in the third period to secure a valuable point. They hit two posts, including a shorthanded attempt by Tuch, and were just inches away from a regulation win if not for an unlucky bounce.
This result ties Buffalo with Carolina for the Eastern Conference lead, with a slight edge over Tampa Bay in points percentage. The competition is fierce, and the standings are likely to remain tight until the season's end.
Off the ice, Tuch finds balance by unwinding with his wife, Kylie, catching up on Stranger Things once the kids are asleep. Yet, he remains aware of the playoff race and the opportunities ahead.
“We’re just focused on the next game,” Tuch said. “We’re focused on our next opponent and hopefully having a really good game against Detroit tomorrow. They’re fighting to get into the playoff picture, so we’re gonna get their best, and we’re gonna give them our best.”
The Sabres are locked in, ready to face the challenges ahead with determination and a bit of flair.
