The Buffalo Sabres kick off the Prospects Showcase on Sunday at 5 p.m. against the Boston Bruins at LECOM Harborcenter, with a two-game event built around some of the organizations’ most intriguing young talent.
The matchup is headlined by a pair of first-round picks: Buffalo defenseman Radim Mrtka and Boston forward James Hagens.
For Buffalo, Mrtka is part of a group of four prospects set for their first North American pro seasons. He’s joined by forward Jake Richard and defensemen Gavin McCarthy and Maxim Strbak, and all four are expected to spend the coming season with Rochester.
Fans can stream the game on Sabres.com beginning at 5 p.m. Dan Dunleavy will handle the broadcast for the Sabres, working alongside Bruins radio broadcaster Ryan Johnston.
Buffalo’s roster is loaded with a mix of recent draft picks and players already on the Rochester track. Among the forwards are Matteo Costantini, Zac Funk, Liam Valente and Richard, while the blue line includes Mrtka, McCarthy, Strbak and Vsevolod Komarov. The group also features younger names such as 18-year-old Dylan Dumont, Doman Szongoth and Caden Dabrowski, along with goalies Talyn Boyko and Samuel Meloche.
