The Dylan Larkin trade picture is still taking shape, and several teams are hovering just outside the conversation.
According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, the Minnesota Wild don’t have the NHL pieces Detroit is looking for in a Larkin deal, with their interest leaning more toward future assets and multiple first-round picks. LeBrun also noted that the New Jersey Devils may be holding onto their biggest chips for a possible Quinn Hughes trade, while it’s unclear what the Tampa Bay Lightning could put together. That report was written before Nikita Kucherov asked for a trade.
LeBrun added that the Carolina Hurricanes looked into the idea internally. He also said the Red Wings would likely have interest in Washington Capitals forward Ilya Protas.
Beyond that, the Utah Mammoth have trade options, but it’s not clear how deeply they’re involved. The Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Dallas Stars, meanwhile, haven’t really been part of the mix.
Other clubs are trying to position themselves for a shot at Larkin’s list. The Fourth Period reported that the Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, St.
Louis Blues, and Los Angeles Kings are hoping to be added to his trade list. There have also been reports that Detroit has an appealing offer from Buffalo, though Larkin isn’t ready to go there yet.
Montreal, for its part, is also prepared to make a strong offer.
Elliotte Friedman said over the weekend that Larkin could be open to changing his list soon, though there’s no indication yet which teams might be added. For now, Detroit is still more focused on Larkin than on restricted free agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson.
TSN’s Darren Dreger said Larkin’s 10-team trade list remains unchanged at the moment, with Boston and Montreal still hoping to break in. Dreger also said Red Wings GM Shawn Horcoff has been in contact with teams, but hasn’t received an offer he likes. Detroit is expected to have scouts at the Maple Leafs-Mammoth game.
That’s why Boston and Montreal are watching closely. Dreger said both clubs believe they have the kind of pieces that could persuade Larkin to their cities, but that hasn’t happened yet.
Larkin and his agent, Pat Brisson, believe a deal can be worked out from the 10-team list.

Alex Tuch Exit Debate Just Reopened A Painful Sabres Question
The Sabres breakup with Alex Tuch is still hanging over the franchise, not just because of what he brought on the ice, but because of how abruptly the relationship ended. Buffalo traded the winger to Washington in a sign-and-trade deal on June 24, and Tuch quickly landed an eight-year extension with his new club, leaving the Sabres to explain how a player they valued so highly was suddenly no longer part of the plan.
Tuch had said he hoped to stay in Buffalo until the trade, which only sharpened the sense that this was a painful exit for a team already trying to replace his impact. The biggest void has shown up on the penalty kill, where his absence has been especially noticeable, and it has reopened a familiar Sabres question about how a core piece got away and whether the club can afford to let that happen again. Sabres Just Hit A Frustrating Wall In Their Search For A Center
The Sabres search for help down the middle has run into another familiar obstacle, and this one comes with a name that would have made plenty of sense on Buffalos wish list. Dylan Larkin has been linked to interest from Sabres general manager Jarmo Kekalainen, but the Red Wings center carries trade protections that make any potential pursuit complicated before it even gets serious.
Detroit has reportedly tried to widen the market by asking Larkins camp to add more possible destinations, including teams like Buffalo, but his side has not budged. For a Sabres team still looking to strengthen its center situation, that leaves the front office staring at a target that is at least for now out of reach, and it underscores how much leverage elite players can still hold in a trade conversation. Sabres Fans Get A Painful Reminder Of The Jack Eichel Trade
For Sabres fans, the Jack Eichel trade still has a way of resurfacing at the worst possible moments. The deal on Nov. 4, 2021 sent the former Buffalo captain to Vegas after a long standoff over his neck injury, and the Golden Knights quickly got the payoff they were chasing once Eichel returned to action and became a major piece of their championship run.
Buffalo did get a haul back in Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs and a pair of premium draft picks, and those assets helped the organization reshape parts of the roster. Even so, the broader memory of the trade remains tied to what Eichel became somewhere else, and every fresh reminder of his success only sharpens the sense that this was one of the franchises defining what-if moments.
