Josh Allens Top Target Suddenly Puts Buffalos Week 1 Stability In Doubt

Uncertainty clouds the Buffalo Bills' season opener as wide receiver Khalil Shakir's undisclosed injury raises concerns ahead of their matchup against the Houston Texans.

The Bills have spent most of the offseason and preseason dodging major injury trouble, but one important name is suddenly in the mix: Khalil Shakir.

Buffalo held Josh Allen’s go-to receiver out of practice, and the reason is an undisclosed injury. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on X that “Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir has missed practice time recently with an undisclosed injury but there’s currently optimism he’ll end up being available for Buffalo’s opener vs. the #Texans, sources tell @CBSSports,” and added, “The Bills are being cautious with him.”

For now, the details are still murky. The team hasn’t said what Shakir is dealing with, but the early read is encouraging. Buffalo is reportedly optimistic the 26-year-old will be ready for the season opener against the Houston Texans.

That would be a big relief for a receiver who has been Allen’s top target over the last two seasons. Shakir finished 2024 with 76 receptions for 21 yards and four touchdowns, then followed that in 2025 with 72 catches for 719 yards. Buffalo expects another strong year from him.

The Bills are also leaning on DJ Moore, whom they traded for in March. The 29-year-old said the relationship with Allen has already clicked.

“Yeah, I think our off-field chemistry and friendship has accelerated the on-field connection. We talk almost every other play about something dealing with a route,” Moore said, according to SI.com.

Moore had his own preseason injury scare in the debut, but he is good to go for the opener. With Allen healthy and Buffalo eyeing a stronger season, the Bills are aiming higher after their last playoff exit.

Josh Allen Just Gave Bills Fans A New Way To Join In

Josh Allen has found another way to make Bills home games feel personal this season. Working with children at Golisano Childrens Hospital of Buffalo, he helped create eight one-of-a-kind Buffalo Bills hats that blend his hand-drawn logo with artwork from the kids, turning a simple accessory into a shared piece of team identity.

Allen will wear one of the hats before each of Buffalos eight regular-season home games, and fans can buy them too, with the proceeds going to the Patricia Allen Fund at the hospital. The project, part of his partnership with New Era, carries forward a charitable effort he began last season and gives Bills supporters a direct way to take part in it. [Read more 🡒]

Bills May Have Quietly Added A Receiver Skill They Still Needed

The Bills kept tinkering with their receiver mix this week by adding Greg Dortch to the practice squad, a move that goes beyond special teams insurance. Dortch brings a long track record as a punt returner, but the appeal here is his versatility as a receiver and the chance he gives Buffalo to add another small, quick target who can help stress coverage underneath.

What makes the signing interesting is the fit. Buffalo has spent the offseason trying to upgrade the receiver room, and Dortchs film-based profile suggests he can create separation against man coverage, which is a useful trait in an offense that can never really have too many reliable options. Whether he becomes more than depth will depend on opportunity, but the Bills clearly saw a skill set worth keeping in the building. [Read more 🡒]

Bills Fans Have A Familiar O-Lineman To Keep An Eye On

Bobby Hart is back on a practice squad, this time with the Seahawks after Seattle made the move official and cleared room by releasing defensive tackle Uso Seumalo. For Bills fans, Hart is a familiar name from a career that has taken him through several stops around the league, and his latest landing spot keeps him on the radar for anyone following old AFC East castoffs who continue finding ways to stick around.

Harts path has included enough recent movement to make his next step worth watching, especially with Seattles practice squad now taking shape around him. It is another reminder that roster churn never really stops in the NFL, and even a familiar veteran tackle can still be one injury or one opening away from becoming a more relevant part of the conversation.
