Josh Allen keeps finding new ways to make a defense miserable, but one analyst isn’t convinced the formula holds up forever.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback put together a huge night against the Detroit Lions in Week 2 of the 2026 season on Thursday, completing 20 of 31 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns. He also did plenty of damage with his legs, piling up 69 yards and two scores on 14 carries in Buffalo’s 41-31 win.
That kind of production is exactly why Allen remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks. It also put him in a place no one else in league history has reached since 1929.
Allen joined Pro Football Hall of Famer Ernie Nevers as the second player in NFL history to record nine total touchdowns and at least four rushing touchdowns in a span of five days. Nevers, playing for the then-Chicago Cardinals, was the last to do it.
Still, Mike Felger wasn’t ready to celebrate without a warning label.
"I don't sell on Josh Allen and the Bills as an elite quarterback or an elite team," Felger said on the "FelgerandMazz" podcast on Thursday. "He's amazing, and I'd take him on my team any day of the week.
But I would say, all that running is not sustainable, and those are not the QBs that win on balance. ... You aren't gonna find guys who run like that and win championships."
Allen’s latest outing only adds to a career that has already been loaded with volume on the ground. He now has 4,813 yards and 83 touchdowns on 891 carries in the pro league. Even with all that production in his ninth year with the Bills, one thing is still missing: a trip to the Super Bowl.
The Bills will try to keep their perfect start rolling in Week 3 when they host the LA Chargers on Sept. 27.

Buffalo is off to a 2-0 start, and the next step is simple: keep the momentum going against the Chargers.
