Josh Allen doesn’t need much to get through an NFL season. The Bills quarterback can list the essentials without hesitation: cleats, recovery gear, and, of course, a football.
But the items that stay closest to him aren’t for Sundays.
In a new GQ “10 Essentials” segment, Allen opened a small leather pouch and revealed that he keeps two Polaroids in his wallet wherever he goes. One is of his wife, Hailee Steinfeld. The other is of their daughter, Harper Haize, who was born in April.
“The most important to me... in my wallet, I always keep two Polaroids, now two, it used to always be one,” Allen said.
He made it clear those photos aren’t for public viewing.
“I'm not going to show you these,” Allen continued. “It's my wife and my baby.
Had a baby a few months ago. I didn't, my wife did.
Got to have them in my pocket at all times.”
Then came the kind of comment that sounds exactly like a new dad trying to explain what matters now.
It’s a small detail, but it tells you plenty about how much Allen’s life away from football has changed.
Allen, 30, and Steinfeld, 29, married in California in May 2025 after first being linked in 2023. The couple announced in December that they were expecting their first child, and Harper Haize arrived in April.
They’ve kept their daughter largely out of the spotlight, which makes Allen’s Polaroid reveal feel especially personal. It’s one of the few glimpses into what the first months of parenthood have looked like for the family.
And while Allen is gearing up for his ninth NFL season, this one comes with a different kind of motivation. He told GQ that becoming a father has added another layer to why he plays.
“I think one is to provide for my family and two, it's to show this young baby that when she's growing up, how hard life can sometimes get and how hard you have to work at certain things to accomplish some things that may be crazy to others,” Allen said.
“There are a lot of reasons why I play this game,” he added. “But it's only added more reasons as to why I do it.”
The changes in Allen’s life have come fast. He and Steinfeld went from newlyweds to new parents in less than a year, all while Allen kept preparing to lead a Bills team carrying championship expectations.
Steinfeld has stayed close to the action, too. She attended a Bills preseason game at the team’s new Highmark Stadium in August and shared a rare look from inside the venue on her Instagram Stories.
For Allen, though, the point is simpler than all the noise around football and fame. He has a reminder of home with him whether he’s at the stadium, on the road, or anywhere else the season takes him.
And nobody else is likely to see those photos.
For a couple that has worked to protect the private parts of their life together, Allen found a quiet way to keep the people he loves close without putting them on display.
Two Polaroids. One wallet. And, as Allen put it, they’re with him “at all times.”
