Josh Allen Is Giving Bills Fans A New MVP Argument

As the Buffalo Bills charge ahead with a strong season, Josh Allen's extraordinary contributions have caught the eye of NFL heavyweights, elevating him to a prime MVP contender.

NFL executives and coaches are seeing what the rest of the league is seeing: Josh Allen is making a loud early case for MVP.

As the season nears its halfway point, Buffalo’s 5-1 record has been built around Allen’s production. The Bills quarterback has piled up more than 1,700 total yards and 17 total touchdowns, while posting a 75.8 QBR that sits among the league’s best at the position. He has also helped Buffalo get to 30-plus points in four of its five wins.

That output has mattered even more because the Bills’ defense has left plenty to be desired. Buffalo’s ability to keep winning with that side of the ball giving up big numbers has made Allen’s play stand out even more, though that formula is not one the Bills can lean on forever.

Cameron Wolfe of ESPN and NFL Network recently reported on a poll of 16 NFL executives, coaches and personnel people who were asked to rank the league’s MVP race so far. Allen came in at No. 2, just behind San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

The list also included honorable mentions, with both Allen and Purdy the only quarterbacks in the top five. Running backs Kenneth Walker and Bijan Robinson were included as well, along with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Wolfe pointed to the bigger picture when explaining why Allen is so high on the board. " But this award is really about value, and it's easy to picture the Bills as a non-playoff team without Allen at the helm.

His defense has performed worse than any candidate on this list -- Buffalo has given up 29-plus points in five of its six games. But the Bills are still 5-1 largely because of Allen's play on the other side of the ball."

He also highlighted Allen’s late-game showing in Buffalo’s 37-34 overtime win over the Rams. " The way Allen performed late in their 37-34 OT victory over the Rams is the most memorable MVP moment of any QB performance this season.

Allen did it primarily with his legs, rushing for career-high 121 yards -- including 91 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Allen had a 93.3 QBR in that win.

As one NFC defensive coach said, "It's gotta be Josh Allen right now. He won the game vs. the Rams by himself!!

Damn he's good!!""

Allen’s influence stretches beyond his passing, too. He’s part of Buffalo’s rushing attack, with 240 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground.

Brock Purdy belongs in the conversation, but Allen’s importance to Buffalo feels bigger than anyone else’s to their team. Without him, the Bills don’t look anything like a 5-1 contender.

Former Bills Back Just Added To Houstons Miserable Stretch

Devin Singletary has a habit of popping up in places that matter to the Bills, and Sunday was another reminder of that. The former Buffalo running back, who spent four seasons with the team before a stop in Houston, helped the New York Giants steal a win from the Texans in Week 7 and added another twist to a stretch the Texans would rather forget.

Singletarys late burst came in overtime and ended the game on a 30-yard touchdown run, a jolt that landed especially hard for a Houston team trying to steady itself. The loss pushed the Texans deeper into a rough start, while Singletary kept adding to a career path that has already taken him from Buffalo to Houston and now to a much needed Giants moment. Bills Bye Week Just Put Real Pressure On The AFC Race

The Bills spent Week 7 on the sideline, but the bye still worked in their favor as several AFC rivals stumbled and the picture around the conference shifted again. Buffalo remains in strong position at 5-1, and the breathing room created by other teams losses only added to the importance of what comes next in a crowded race near the top of the standings.

A weekend without football can still feel productive when the bracket breaks your way, but it also sharpens the focus on every result from here on out. With the AFC playoff race tightening and Week 8 bringing a fresh set of matchups to sort through, Buffalos margin for error is getting smaller even while the team continues to sit near the front of the pack. Bills Bye Week Reset Puts Key Ravens Game Focus On Defense

The bye week gave Buffalo a chance to sort through a few defensive moving parts before a tough matchup with Baltimore, and the roster could look different coming out of it. DJ Moore is expected back from injury, and the Bills have also had younger defenders like Jalon Kilgore, Kaleb Elarms-Orr and T.J. Parker seeing more snaps lately as the coaching staff works through depth and health concerns.

Jordan Hancock is in line to come off injured reserve, giving Buffalo another option to help steady a unit that has needed fresh bodies. Ed Oliver could also be part of the conversation for the Ravens game, although his status is less certain, and the team may soon have to make a call on Zane Durant as it tries to balance recovery timelines with the urgency of getting the defense ready for one of the weeks biggest tests.
